The follow up to "The Stones" was again eagerly awaited and I WAS NOT disappointed. This is by far the best of the two and again I was blown away with the unexpected twists and turns each page unfolds.

I can see these stories becoming a Hollywood Blockbuster if they stick to the story and don't spoil it, unlike some others I could mention! Certainly brings some fantastic imagery to mind as our hero's discover more magic!

Again, like the first, it was hard to break away from the story because it was so wonderfull and more enchanting. It is a perfect follow-up and I am now suffering from withdrawal symptons awaiting the third book. This is a series of books, that could continue way past Jake's teenage yearswithout gaps in between!

Truely another fantastic enjoyable read and is there a fan-club? x

Starts off slower than the first book building into a very entertaining action packed crescendo.
Despite facing powerful and interestingly apparently invincible adversaries, Jake and his allies manage to carry on the fight and with the odds stacked against them, prepare to stand or die.

Was it said once that a good book keeps you coming back for more - if not then someone should say that and use this book an example.

I read the first installment of Jake West and for me that was an achievment as I've never had a book keep me that intersted and I'm including some of the big ones in that list.

Anyway it's took me a little longer to read the second installment but the book just kept me going back to see what happened next all the time.

My title says it all - this book expands on Mr Webb's first book by offering more magic, more battles, more fantasy - just more of everything you'd want. How he's going to make a third book - if there is to be one, better than this heaven knows. I'm guessing there has got to be a third book as I'm now left wondering what is going to happen to Jake and the Rebellion. This is a hard act to follow.

Well done Mr Webb you should be proud of your work and I'm very sure your family and friends are right behind you to get that third book out sooner rather than later.

If you haven't bought this book and the first one - why not???

Promote the little man - the guy who puts himself out there - that is why we are British!!!

Over and Out - Good times Always!!! :)

Fantasy isn't something I'm normally into, that much. When I'm in a completely different universe, I don't feel "grounded" I guess is the word. What makes this different is the shifting between the modern & the parallel/fantastical world through a portal. I feel like a know the kids because they are real & authentically modern, navigating a different world entirely. The worlds, characters, and creatures are intricately drawn. I thought the focus on dialogue and action was great. I wasn't bugged by having to learn a new language or the whole history and geneaology of every new being, as is often the case in fantasy. Webb offers all the stuff that make for a fast read & strips away much of what usually slows me down in fantasy realms. The story itself is really good. It was also well done as being the 2nd act of a 3-act play, basically, where there's enough background in the opening pages that you feel like you can read it as a story in itself w/o necessarily going to book 1. There were just a few spots where I thought the internal thoughts went on a bit long & I wanted less thinking more action, but those are small bumps on a really nice story. If you like fantasy with modern YA voices, this is a rare combination you should check out. Esp for a couple bucks--it's a steal of a deal.

This is the second installment of the Jake West series and ooooooo it is good, it has everything you could possibly want in a book, other worlds, strange cultures and races, battles between good and evil, huge near impossible quests, spirit guides, best friends (who constantly eat), bravery in the face of adversity, winged horses, mystical stones and best of all fire breathing dragons (I do like a dragon...I'm with Ben, they would make great pets). In this installment we follow Jake as he tries not only to save himself, his old and new friends and restore the stones but while he tries to save another world from annihilation.

Webb has taken his work to the next level as the story picks up pace, pulling the reader from one epic battle to another with moments of uneasy quiet between, where you catch your breath, take stock and prepare for the next battle of wills, spells and undead armies. I don't want to give too much away but the battles in this book will leave you as breathless as Tolkien's epic sieges (you may want to get in supplies beforehand because you will not be leaving your seat until the very last page).

My previous concerns over the length of each characters inner monologues has been blown out of the water and left hanging by Webb's flowing prose and rapid story telling that leave no doubt that this series will just get better and better. Now to eagerly await the next installment of Jake West and friends...lets not leave it too long shall we...
