My second pair was a cheap and cheerful pair from a internet shop I've bought from before. When I say cheap, I mean cheap - £21! I didn't expect much, but they were better than the Earin at £250. They didn't cut out, but the battery life was about 45 minutes.
So, nervously, I purchased a pair of the Jabra Elite 65t's. I know Jabra's reputation of old but I expecting disappointment again. I needn't have worried.
The packaging is Apple standard - the box slides out of its sleeve revealing the earbuds recessed inside. Lift the cover reveals the charging pod and a further box containing the booklet, two other pairs of silicone buds and the USB cable for the charging the pod.
After letting them charge for a couple of hours, as per the instructions, I took them out of the charging pod, which woke them up. They immediately reached out to my Samsung S7 Edge and appeared in the Bluetooth menu. Thanks to Hedley LaMarr, everything went smoothly.
I was disappointed with the sound level until I discovered that the sound controls did not affect the sound level on the phone. As soon as I wound the sound up we were off. I've set it up with maximum on the Jabras and used the volume control on my phone to control the level then used the earbuds volume control to lower or raise the volume according to the recording level of the music.
The sound quality seemed poor with the medium tips, but as soon as swapped them out for the large ones, all my doubts disappeared. The sound is nearly as good as my Sennheiser Momentums and that is high praise. They are, however, more harsh that my Sennheiser wireless cans, but only to be expected, bearing in mind that they use their own base station and are driven by a Cambridge Audio DAC.
The buds themselves seem well built and exude sturdiness. There is also a leaflet that lists replacement buds, tips, case, etc. Mind you, with the way these things fit (Follow the instructions on how to put them in and you can't go wrong) you aren't going to lose one any time soon. Despite this, they are comfortable to wear for hours.
The bass and midrange are impressive, but you get crackle if you push the bass up on the phone and earbuds at the same time. The answer is not to be as stupid as I was. As I went to too many concerts in my youth, and age I cannot be a good judge of the treble.
All in all, an impressive pair of earbuds at the middle of the price range, that punch well above their weight.
Connectivity seems first rate with no dropouts. They connect to two devices at once which is super convenient and the connection is very stable for me so far. When taking the earphones out of their case, they connect very very quickly which is also great.
They have some great features. Take an earphone out of your ear and your music pauses. Put it back in, and the music resumes. On calls, both earphones receive the sound which is very unusual for truly wireless earphones.
The case is reasonable. Smaller than most and with just enough additional battery life to justify its size tho it is still around twice the size of the AirPods case. I dont think there are magnets to help align the earphones with the case but I havent had any issues getting the earphones into the case, charging etc.
Sound quality is fine. It is not as bass forwards as some and I find it a little flat actually, but the app can help customise that enough to be fine for me.
The reason these get only 4 stars from me despite being a really great product is that I find them a little uncomfortable to wear, the provided eartips just arent quite right for me. I also think the case is only average with a slightly awkward to open latch and it is just a bit larger than I would like.
Overall, these are well worth trying out. They actually work and work really really well.
They advertise them as being optimised for both call and music quality, I would strongly agree!!!
The sound quality is spot on.
By default the bass is flat, use the jabra app and you can make these truly wireless earbuds sound brilliant.
Now what makes these stand out from the competition is the Bluetooth 5.0 which gives an incredible connection to the phone providing your phone is 5.0 compatible for the best connection.
(They do work on all Bluetooth phones)
I have not experienced any crackling or drop outs in any of the earbuds and when streaming movies or YouTube the lipsync is spot on ( not like all the 4.2 Bluetooth earbuds).
The case holds 10 hours of charge.
It's small enough for most pockets.
When placing the earbuds in the case there is no magnets holding them in place which is fine cause they seem to drop into place and the lid has indentations that align with the earbuds when shut.
UPDATE...With great regret I have had to send these earbuds back to Amazon.
The inner part of my right ear seems to be smaller than the left and after having these earbuds in for more than an hour my right ear is becoming quite fatigue.
This is the only problem with these if you have small ears they may give you discomfort.
