a) easy to carry
b) provide very good cancellation in planes [did travel a bit for a number of years]
c) the ear padding does last.
The ear pads are giving way now, but after the years of use that is acceptable.
I still have the case it comes with and that is also a very useful addition, you can keep a spare AAA battery in the case for the time the one in the earphones runs out. Batteries do last well and you will not find yourself replacing them very often.
Tip: get a cheap bluetooth receiver (or a good one like a Sony SBH20 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Headset with NFC and Multi-Point Connectivity - Black) and you dont have to worry about having the cable connected to your phone all the time - handy when you have to get up to let people in or out on the plane.
I did spend a fair while looking around at noise cancelling headphones, these bad boys do seem to come up very favorably even compared to units three or four times their price. The noise cancelling does work very well, although more towards the lower end of the spectrum. It sounds like when you turn the bass off on a set of speakers, you still get some treble but there is a definite reduction.
The sound quality is slightly better than average, probably i'd say equal to a £40 pair of headphones. This is the main difference between this and a higher priced pair, but the sound is more than acceptable. I know some people have complained about the difficulty fitting the one AAA battery, do it once and it's easy as pie!
In terms of weight, they are heavier than other headphones I've got, but not overly so and the fit is excellent so you don't really notice it. Soft real leather ear cuffs surround your ear too with the adjustable band not feeling like piano wire on the top of your head.
Another good feature is that the input lead pops out, so you can wear them as a noise dampening unit (I wear them in bed when I can't sleep). There is a slight hiss without anything playing, but it's not really distracting. The input wire itself does feel a bit flimsy, but does the trick. Personally I replaced it with a thicker wire from another set of headphones that is more to my 'manly' inklings.
Overall this is an excellent set of noise cancelling headphones for the price, one I would recommend to anyone who gets the train everyday!
However it does not reduce all the noise as well as some high end models, but then again do you want to pay three times the price for a set of headphones that going to get thrown around in the carry on luggage. Neat carry case to afford protection to your headphones, it has a little pouch inside that allows you to store the various adapters and spare AAA battery.
They are fairly comfortable to wear, but after a few hours you do start to notice that you have had them on and need to take them off to give your ears a bit of a airing (it at this point you notice how effective they have been in reducing the background noise!).
Good value for money!
When turned on, the quality of bass in audio is increased lots and sounds lovely. Great for watching videos and listening to music.
I've used them while traveling and they mask about 60-70% of engine drone from planes/buses.
They can still be used when batteries run out, but the sound quality for audio becomes worse than a normal pair of headphones if so.
The lead could be longer.
Battery life is good. I use lithium, non-rechargable batteries and they can last a week without changing batteries (I regularly use them for over five hours a day!)
For the price it's what you'd expect. I'd recommend them if you're looking for traveling headphones or something with a little extra bass-power.
