The reason I have only given 4 stars, was my delivery experience. I got the phone call everyone talks about, and chose a Friday delivery because that was my lightest day at work and was going to have to take the day off to receive the rower. (I ordered it on the Sunday).
As promised I got an email from Panther, the delivery firm used on Thursday afternoon confirming they had the rower, and that delivery was going to take place, and then a text message that evening, saying that the delivery would be between 1050 and 1150 on the Friday morning.
Hunky Dory everyone happy..........until that afternoon, when i received another text from Panther, saying they hadn't got the rower, and to contact JTX to re-arrange delivery!! As you can imagine, after giving up a days pay, I was not happy!!
It was eventually delivered on the Monday morning, and apart from the fact that the computer looked like it was second hand, (like another reviewer has said) everything else is good.
(the screen was very scratched, clearly had a lot of use, and was probably a reconditioned one that had been returned. A little naughty if you are being sold a product as new.
Overall you will not be disappointed with this equipment, and I think I was just the unlucky person at the time. I bought a lottery ticket on the Friday and didn't win that either :-))
The unit is in several parts when received so it does require some assembly. But this is reasonable straightforward.
I tried the machine myself recently and I wanted to use the heart rate monitor. I have not used one before and I could not get any sort of response from the sensor. There was no information in the provided manual and no information on the internet that I could find.
I sent an email to the seller and received a very rapid reply explaining that the sensor contacts needed to be dampened before use.
They also said they would include a note into the manual for future customers.
For my use I found I needed some extra weights on the 'far' end to prevent it lifting from the floor when pulling vigorously.
Some dumbbells did the trick.
A few sessions after this I noticed the display becoming erratic switching on and off at random. When off all the fields reset so the machine became unusable. The unit appeared to have a loose connection either in the display unit itself or in the cable connecting to it. This is pretty flimsy for such a critical component. I sent an enquiry to the seller asking for help. At this time my computer crashed so I could not receive emails. It was therefore a very pleasant surprise a couple of days later to find a parcel in the post with a complete replacement display unit.
So I cannot fault the rapid no quibble service. The machine itself is mostly very good but there are small niggles that could be improved.
When it is out of warrantee I may replace the cable connector with something more solid.
I would buy this again.
Had this rower just over a month. So far it's had 3 new display consoles, a new motor and new internal wiring. This means I've only used it a handful of times. Now the foot plate has split. When everything works it feels OK. The pulse monitor is rubbish though, it says I've a pulse of 30 when rowing on level 16. I find the resistance a bit light, even on max. I have a background of hill running and cycling and wanted a piece of equipment to do the upper body. Since I'm primerily interested in endurance, both from a sport and muscleature point of view this rower is ideal for longer sessions. Well it would be if it was reliable. The console offers a good array of programs.
