I've enjoyed writing as long as I can remember and at the age of seven produced my first magazine, selling it to my friends for one old penny. Several decades later I became a real magazine editor and went on to sell short stories and features on a regular basis to national magazines.
I come from quite a creative family (five generations of theatre and circus gymnasts, trapeze artists, singers, musicians and songwriters) but I'm rubbish on a trapeze, I can't sing or dance or even crack a joke without forgetting the punchline. However, I am a painter and art tutor, and most of all I love to write, so I hope some of you out there will be able to pass a happy hour with one or more of my books.
I was born and bred in Liverpool, one of the great historic ports in the UK, and I take a nostalgia trip there every year. Two of my books are set in Liverpool (ME, DINGO AND SIBELIUS and THE BOY WHO COULD FLY).
In all, twelve of my books are now available on Amazon. Four adult novels (ME, DINGO AND SIBELIUS, AFFAIR WITH AN ANGEL, THE RELUCTANT BRIDE and NEVER SLEEP WITH A NEIGHBOUR!), two collections of short stories (THE FLOATER and THE GIRL AT TABLE NINE), four novels for children aged 9 to 14, THE MYSTERY OF CRAVEN MANOR, THE BOY WHO COULD FLY, THE FAMILY ON PINEAPPLE ISLAND and THERE'S A LION IN MY BED!, and for teens and young adults my latest novel CABBAGE BOY.
Also now available is HOW TO WRITE FICTION, a comprehensive guide for would-be writers, which puts together my teachings over nearly three decades as a Creative Writing Tutor.
Oh, and if you're interested in taking up the pen, laptop or tablet and having a go yourself, do take a look at my creative writing blog, THE WRITER'S DESK, at joywodhams.blogspot.co.uk, where you'll find tips on how to improve your writing skills.
