Product description

About the Author

Trained in fashion design at London’s Ealing Art School, Jan first began working for the House of Worth in Mayfair, London in 1958. She then moved on to wholesale fashion as the designer’s assistant for Slimma. Marriage to an army officer in 1961 took her to Germany for three fascinating years. Later, back in civilian life they moved to Singapore; “another amazing experience”, she says, which has proved valuable ‘grist’ to her writing ‘mill’. After moving to Yorkshire in 1972, she later went through a painful divorce and survived 6 years with two kiddies as a one parent family - a tough period, from which she has drawn in her fiction writing. After managing a fashion boutique in Wakefield, Yorkshire for 2 years, her last position for several years was sales rep for a top designer spectacle frame company, until redundancy finally allowed Jan to pursue her writing ambition. She has a daughter Jayne, son Justin, and two granddaughters Abby and Alexia. Now happily married to Mark for 36 years, they live in a converted barn in rural Yorkshire. In the past Jan has successfully sold various articles and short stories to UK magazines, but longer book length fiction has been her main interest for many years. In December 2006 Jan was commissioned to ghost write a successful autobiography for black American soul singer/songwriter, Tommy Hunt; ONLY HUMAN, published in paperback by Bank House Books (2009). Available on Amazon (For further info visit: www.tommyhunt.co.uk ) Jan’s novels: THE SECRET - A wickedly, woven web of dark secrets, emotional conflict and romantic intrigue. A contemporary romance with a bit of an edge. Emotive content. A FACE TO DIE FOR – Pure nostalgia: Glamour, romance and scandal in the decadent Swinging 60’s London Fashion world. Emotive content. JOANNA - Out of betrayal and tragedy, springs love and hope for the future. A spin off sequel to A FACE TO DIE FOR LOOKING AT YOU - A passionate, adult relationship novel with a bittersweet outcome. Grown up romance – peppered with moral dilemmas. Emotive content All novels are available to download on Amazon Kindle.

I enjoyed this read so much. There was so many stories within the story, and emotions were so intense at times you got lost in them. I would enjoy reading reading another story by this author.

Jan Warburton. I "met" her through a forum, at the time I didn't know what sort of books she had written. One day her book THE SECRET was was made free for download to Kindle and so I downloaded it onto mine. When I got to reading it, I found the book really good. I was surprised for a new author. I didn't know what to expect as I hadn't had my Kindle for long and didn't even realize that sometimes authors give books for free for a certain amount of time.

I looked for another book she had written and came across A FACE TO DIE FOR. I thought, hmm unusual title. It was based around the 1960's and a graduate that attained fame through her hard work as a fashion designer. Love story, drug taking, emotional conflict. Glamour and envy. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel then found it will have a sequel to this. I have been waiting for JOANNA for ages. As soon as I bought it I had to read it.

This is 1969. Joanna has experienced a miscarriage, breakdown of her marriage. Then she discovers she is pregnant again. Lots of things in her life unfolds.

Returning to work. JOANNA appears to have everything at last that any woman could ask for. But has she?

I warmed to the character of JOANNA, so many things she has experienced.

Jan Warburton flows a story with her pen, you read it with great ease. Her style is one that you can easily see flows from page to page.

Thank you Jan for another wonderful read.

JOANNAI know they say you should never judge a book by its cover, but for me, this one just looked so well presented with an understated, elegant quality about it, that I felt it deserved a closer look. I'm so glad I was right to follow my instincts! I've read other books by Jan Warburton and thoroughly enjoyed them. This one more than lived up to my expectations. Her evocative descriptions of the steamy, spice laden air of an unspoilt Singapore in the early sixties, had me transported there.

Joanna herself, is such a well rounded, likeable and extremely talented character. We follow her journey, from the intriguing Far East setting, to the countryside of rural Hampshire. From there, we share her heartache at the breakdown of her marriage, and her determination to succeed in the face of betrayal and failure. Then we learn how she rebuilds her life as an interior designer and best selling author and how she finds love again.

Jan Warburton's sensitive handling of deeply emotional scenes is deft and subtle, without being overly sentimental. I don't want to spoil the plot for the readers by giving too much away, suffice to say that a box of tissues would be handy at some points in the story, which slowly builds to a satisfying conclusion. Enjoy!

With JOANNA, Jan Warburton builds on the success of A FACE TO DIE FOR with a well-told story of love and loss that begins in the late sixties and develops over the next twenty years. Once again this talented author gets deep inside the emotions and motivations of her lead character. She paints a clear and believable picture of a woman struggling with the demands of what is expected of a woman at this time and the demands she places on herself for success as an individual in her own terms. Will the outcome be happiness or tragedy?

The result is a well-written story with plenty to engross readers of quality women's fiction. Highly recommended.
