Read the positive reviews with a slight pinch of salt, but having bought this I must say I am very impressed.

Sound quality is just fantastic, especially from such a small unit, as it filled my room with sound better than my HI-FI.

Dont know really what I expected, but it did exceed my expectations. Set up was easy, and as mentioned about iPod - Just select shuffle and it stops it from playing first track every time you use it. I would recomend this unit as it really is a very smart system that sounds just great... Very impressed.

This is a truly excellent sounding set of speakers and clock radio to boot. This really does what it says on the tin, and is a nice quality product in the old Harman Kardon mold - for those that remember this name for the "real HiFi" area. Yes its very stylish, yes it's a little glam and plastic - but it really does look and sound good

All features/functions seem to work superbly with my 3G iPod.

HOWEVER - if you want to wake up to your selected song - or just resume a previously playing song/album, having powered off your device - its unlikely to work properly with a 5G Video iPod (mine doesn't work with 1.2 software - it just resets to the first track of your first album). Apple and JBL/HK know about the problem - just look at the Apple newsgroups - but it has not been fixed yet - so check when you are reading this to see if this will still be a problem for you.

This is more of a problem than it sounds when you consider there is no way to navigate the iPod other than using the clickwheel (the JBL has no remote); So you are forced to clumsily try and use the iPod whilst docked, potentially straining the connector...

Brought this as I was looking for an ipod speaker system with radio and there's not many about.

Sound.

I am absolutely blown away with the power from this system. Way loud enough for most home uses. Brilliant bass (even without the ipod EQ set to bass boost). Not just that, the clarity of the sound is amazing, as you increase the volume you can still hear all parts ie drums, guitar, keyborads and vocals all blending together without drowning each other out. Very little, if any background noise. Close your eyes and listen to some songs and you'd swear the artist was in the room with you. Amazing. I have listened to some songs that I have known for years and heard words, lines, notes and instruments that I never knew were there, honestly.

Looks.

Really cool with the adjustable blue illumination and shimmering black finish it's a joy to look at aswell.

Operate.

Some people have complained when you switch it on it always goes to the first track on your ipod, hey, it's got to start somewhere, just change it in itunes so one of your favorite tracks comes up first. Although there is no remote it is easy enough to change track whilst docked as long as you support the ipod from behind with your fingers as you navigate the click wheel with your thumb, the same way you would do if you were holding it in your hand.

The only gripe I have with this is that a few times my ipod has froze and I have had to reset it. This tends to happen if you turn the unit off whilst the ipod is still playing, turning off the ipod first seems to be ok. Not sure if this is a fault with the unit or the ipod, have emailed JBL for answer so hopefully will sort out soon.

Overall

The fact that it has a radio, it looks great and the sound (honestly can not tell you how good it is)make up for the gripes.

A few reviews have mentioned the On Time only tuning to even numbers... there is a setting to change this. Under radio you can set to USA or European tuning standards. Set to Europe and voila - access to 97.1 and other 'odd numbered' frequencies.

I have done some investigating after reading one of the earlier reviews posted on here about the alarm defaulting to song one on the 5G i-pods. One person said that a way to get around this is to change your software back to version 1.0 (annoying but apparently works). HOWEVER, the good news is that my i-pod has the latest software version and as I have slected my i-pod to be on shuffle a different song is selected every time the alarm goes off and not the first song on my i-pod! As the others say, the sound quality is fantastic (I tried out some other alarms in a shop and trust me this alarm has vastly superior sound quality - others sounded tinny).

This really is the ultimate alarm clock! To wake up to your fave song on your Ipod every morning is sheer decadence and to have the choice of buzzer alarm or radio alarm is handy too. It gets louder and louder in the morning unless you touch a button so its a very effective alarm clock and also has a very large snooze button on the top-handy! This is a glorified docking station, and charges any Ipod, together with being a handy Soundwall so really has many more useful applications that a convential soundwall. The bright blue digital display has a dimmer facility;useful as in a dark bedroom the bright display prevents you from sleeping as it lights up the entire room its that bright! The sound quality is first class and offers a good depth of sound. It even sets its own clock by cleverly tuning itself into radio stations and taking the time from the rds on the radio! clever! The previous reviewer does mention a few limitations but these dont bother me at all. This is a very cool looking piece and overall meets my needs perfectly. Your Ipod when docked gets lit up by a blue light making it look very swish! Highly recommended!
