Product Description

About the Author

Victoria L. James is a teenage girl stuck in a thirty-something-year-old's body. Living somewhere 'oop north' in England, she has had a strong passion for words and stories going as far back as she can remember, which she credits to her grandmother and her love of reading anything that was on sale and cheap from the local market stall. Never once did she think she would release a novel, though. At best, she thought her love of language and her ability to create stories in her mind would provide her with a 'get out of jail free' card whenever she messed up and her parents were mad at her during her teenage years... and when even that didn't work out, she thought she was pretty much done for. When an opportunity presented itself for her to take a back seat from paid working life for a few years, she knew straight away that she had to try and write about a few of these worlds she'd come up with along the way, and quieten all the voices in her head without racking up a heavy psychiatry bill for the pleasure. Wearing her heart on her sleeve and trying to lighten her friends' and family's lives with naff, and more often than not, badly-timed, nineties jokes, she has yet to learn the art of knowing when to shut up. Which is another reason writing became a passion of hers. With pen and paper, there are no limits. A firm believer in never quitting, with a ridiculous obsession for all things Rocky, she hopes that one day she writes a story that will inspire at least one person out there to keep on going if they're struggling. Other than that, she's just a regular old converse wearing, corona sipping, English version of Chandler Bing, who loves and adores her family more than life itself. Oh, and she also has two cats. Every writer has to mention their cats, right?

Every so often a writer comes along with so much talent that it practically oozes from every word they scribble down. Victoria L. James is one of them. Every word she writes turns to pure gold and this, her debut novel, is proof of that.

A perfectly crafted and beautifully written testament to the human spirit to endure and survive, Izzy Moffit's Road to Wonderland is a fantastic debut novel. It's clear as you read that the author has poured her heart and soul into every word, and it has paid off in every way.

From humble beginnings, struggling her way through a nightmare childhood with her best friend, Paris, by her side, we are introduced early to the spirit that has kept Izzy moving through a life that is filled with trials and tribulations that would destroy many. We watch as the young, frightened girl grows into a strong woman, fiercely protective of those she loves and a loyal and caring friend. Her friendship with her soul sister, Paris, is a constant theme throughout the story and the enduring love between them, even when they're separated.

The main themes I took from the book are those of love, friendship and hope. The hope that the love we have for our friends can pull us through anything and that no matter what life throws at us, we ARE strong enough to get through it. Just a beautiful and inspirational book. I expect great things to come from this author.

Izzy Moffit's Road to Wonderland has been beautifully written drawing the reader right into Izzy's tumultuous life from a young girl to a strong independent women as she survives the domestic abuse from her dad to dealing with love, deceit, death, the heartbreaking fight she goes through to help her best friend her soul sister Paris to overcome her drug addiction and restore the happiness that she once found.

The story of two lifelong best friends also happens to have a few humorous remarks and situations along the way, an interesting date with hottie architect Max Colton involving a chilli and an eventual trip to A&E to yet another blind date with sexy running man and strip club owner Ethan who seems to bring that missing spark back into Izzy's life.

It has been a privilege to watch this story slowly unfold on Twitter over the past year or so and to finally see them being published has made me very proud of Victoria and the Wonderland Family for taking the big leap of faith and believing in their ideas.

Thank you Victoria L James for bringing Izzy's story to life and taking us on what I can only describe as a crazy rollercoaster ride, I can't wait for the journey to continue!!!

Most of this book is set in the 90's which instantly made me love it, but it never feels dated. The characters, their emotions and the lives they live are real and relatable. Every page has clearly been written in a way which allows the reader to live the story.

From detailed surrounds to being privy to the main characters inner most thoughts you get the feeling the book could go on a thousand more pages and you would never become bored.

How this is the authors first published work is beyond me and I look forward to her next venture

Now, I don't want to give too much away because I know there are still so many of you that haven't finished, started or downloaded yet, but what I will say is holy-effing-wow!!

Isabella Moffit is seventeen years old, living a cruel and miserable life. A life that no person in this world, let alone a child of such a young age, should have to go through. Her only escape being her bff, Paris Hemsworth, who, along with the rest of us, hate to see her go through such hard times.

Abuse and constant put downs are just some of the issues this young girl is having to put up with on a daily basis.

Can she make it through it?

Or will she forever be stuck in a life full of hatred, along with the unbearable feeling of being unloved?

You'll have to read for yourself.

But what I will say, is although she feels weak at times, worthless and nothing special, to Paris, and us readers, she is is brave, courageous, beautiful and a true inspiration to many.

Prepare yourself for tears, tantrums and plenty of "What the hells?".

A beautiful story that will have you hooked from the start. A story like no others out there to date.

I give Victoria L James five heartbreaking, yet well deserved stars.

Izzy Moffit’s Road to Wonderland

I had the opportunity to read Izzy Moffit’s Road to Wonderland while beta reading and editing for Victoria L James and what a pleasure that was.

Victoria writes beautifully, I’m not ashamed to say I cried, I laughed, I gasped, everything that Izzy (and Paris) felt, I felt it along with them. It’s actually incredibly hard to edit a book you enjoy so much, I constantly had to go over it as I realised I was ‘reading’ instead of ‘editing’ and I’m looking forward to reading it purely for pleasure.

We meet Izzy and Paris in the Prologue, aged 10, immediately you can feel their bond, but also Izzy’s struggle. Her life is clearly poles apart from her best friend’s but even aged 10 they are funny, you actually can visualise this conversation between two 10 yr olds….

**“I’m her anchor.”
“Her wanker?”
Unable to stop myself from looking up, still struggling against the pain that’s floating around in the back of my head and making my eyes fill with water, I turn to her and frown. “You just swore.”
“You did it first,” she replies, holding back a giggle.
“No, no I didn’t. I said anchor… anchor!”
“Like one of those things on a boat?” Her little button nose turns up at the end, something she only ever does when she’s confused. **

As Izzy grows up and her life at home becomes unbearable, she's forced to run to the only other place she's ever called home. She runs to her best friend, Paris, and the Hemsworth family for help.

Aged 17 she picks herself up with their support and feels like her life can only be on the up, because it could hardly get worse, right? Hmmmm life has a way of letting you think that, then kicking you right were it hurts with a sucker punch!
