This may be as good as it gets for Alison's bluegrass fans - her new musical directions are taking her into pop territory. Here, she's at her purest best with that clear, sweet voice and superb fiddle playing. The songs are uniformly excellent with great harmonies from the band and tasteful accompaniment and fluent solos. The uncluttered production captures Krauss's natural sound and live band dynamics which are sadly missing on her "Forget About It" experiment. It's so refreshing to hear a complete album with no drums! Her style is neither strictly bluegrass, gospel or country although those are the strongest influences and the album is a pleasant relaxing listen which has your toes tapping and melodies and phrases which stick in your head for days afterwards. If you like this then you'll also enjoy "Two Highways" and "Every Time We Say Goodbye" - although they are closer to pure bluegrass and she shares the lead vocals with other Union Station members

Alison Krauss has done much to popularise bluegrass in recent years. Her early recordings were pure bluegrass – this (from 1990) might just be the best album of that phase of her career, although they are all brilliant and it's hard to choose a particular favorite. Her more recent albums have included other influences but I enjoy those too, in a different way.
There are no really famous songs on this album, but the quality of all the songs is high. Sidney Cox (of the Cox family, a noted bluegrass group with which Alison recorded a gospel album) wrote four songs including the title track (a bright, upbeat song) and Tonight I'll be lonely too (an outstanding ballad). Other favorites of mine include Steel rails (a brilliant train song), Endless highway, Will you be leaving and One good reason, but there are so many great songs here and it may be that your favorite is one I haven't mentioned. The overall feel of the album is bright and upbeat.
If you are unfamiliar with Alison’s early music, I recommend that you buy Now that I’ve found you - A collection, which I’ve already reviewed. That includes one track from each of her early albums, plus tracks not available on any of her other albums so far. If you have that collection and you are looking for more of Alison’s early music, you will enjoy this.

I've only listened to the album right through maybe three times since I got it a few days ago, but already each and every song on this remarkable CD is lodged in my mind. The range of songs here is outstanding, and will keep anyone from the most hardcore of bluegrass fans (with songs like 'Will You Be Leaving' and 'I've Got That Old Feeling') to more relaxed music lovers (with songs like 'Tonight I'll Be Lonely Too' and 'One Good Reason') hooked for good. I originally started out by listening to Alison's most modern songs, and slowly traced her career back through her CDs. This album is a prime example of just how amazing a singer she is, and was, from a very early age. And of course, the musicians that perform on this record are second-to-none, including the current AKUS member Jerry Douglas. Every song here is a new experience, and one that you will most certainly not forget in a hurry!

This is my fave CD of Alison Krauss. It sticks to the roots she began with in Too Late to Cry but is one step better as she gets more comftable and confident in her style. For me Alison doen't get back on her feet again until the collection followed by her newest album. Her other albums are good, but some how these three stand head and shoulders above the rest

This CD represents the second of the two earlier recorded CDs that I recently bought. Alison's Voice has changed slightly over the Years and as has the choice of the Songs that she sings. In this earlier CD her voice has more 'Edge' which complements the Songs on this Album.

I have always enjoyed AKUS, and look forward to further high quality Albums such as this.

Both CDs were delivered safely and well before the original estimated date of arrival, well done Amazon.

I own, I think every recording by this truly GREAT artist, and have yet to be dissapointed in anything she has done, caught her live in Gateshead a fantastic evening,I could have reviewed any of her Rounder output and given them all five stars, the reason I chose this cd was that it contains the saddest song in the world,That Makes One of Us,it moves me everytime,so whilst I recommend all of Alisons cd's this one contains my favourite sad song, but it doesn't really matter, if you want to hear a great performer backed by an equally great band buy any of them ,she is amazing
