From the Author
I've received quite a few e-mails from people who weren't sure if "It's the
Thought that Counts" was much different to What the Bleep do we know?, The
Biology of Belief, The Secret, The Field, or The Intention Experiment.
I love the above books, and I wholeheartedly recommend them. Yes, It's the
Thought that Counts does share some commonalities but I really wrote it for
a different audience....to make these types of teachings accessible to the
`ordinary person', or `the man in the street', as they say.
I made it ultra-simple because I was brought up in a small village in
Central Scotland, in a place where people don't really tend to go on to
higher education. At least, they didn't when I was 16 (I'm 36 now!). I
wrote the book so that my mum, dad, and aunty Jane, could read it, none of
whom have any qualifications, and so that teenagers could read it and
totally get that thoughts heal, they create reality, and that we're all
connected.
This was the main challenge in taking scientific jargon and translating it
into everyday language. But I did pack it full of information so that it
would also provide a source that therapists could use and that even someone
with a PhD would get loads from. It was meant to be short so you could
easily read it in one day.
I also applied it to making the world a better place. For me, and the place
I'm in in my life right now, I needed to know how, together, we could make
the world better for our children, and our children's children. I needed to
know how we can apply this awesome power at our disposal to help everyone.
So the second half of It's the Thought that Counts does just this. I
suggest that we use our power of intention to try to exercise kindness,
compassion, forgiveness, and generosity. This is the root of the final
chapter, "3 Simple Rules." They are 1) Love for Self, 2) Love for Others,
and 3) Love for Nature.
For me, life is about being a consciously loving human being and so I try
to reflect this in my writing. I hope it comes across in It's the Thought
that Counts. Louise Hay (30 million copy best selling author of You can
Heal Your Life) kindly pointed out in the Foreword she wrote for me that it
had. Thanks Louise!

Thoughts can affect apparently inanimate objects. Having negative thoughts can mean you get negative results in the material world. Change your thoughts to positive and results will change. There are many references to scientific studies given and these can usually be tracked down on line. The author makes reference to inspirational author whose work he quotes from. There is a list of notes at the end of the book with ideas for further reading.
Even if you think such ideas are rubbish it can do no harm to try changing at least some of your thoughts and see what happens. If nothing changes then you've not lost anything - if something changes life may improve. This is a book to read more than once and to think about in depth and it is written in an easy conversational style which will inspire you to at least try and put its ideas into practice.
With it being non-fiction, I expected not to get 'hooked' in the same way I would a fiction novel, but I couldn't put it down and I'm sure I'll be reading it again very soon. I'm fascinated with the human mind's ability to control the body and this book covers not only the scientific theory, but the more spiritual as well, without being too heavy on a particular religion or religion in general. It's a great balance between science and faith. I'm a huge believer that our minds hold great power to change and influence our world and David R. Hamilton explains how that is possible in this inspirational book.
It really is a book that will linger with you for a long time, and I've found myself quoting numerous ideas from it in conversations since reading it. Even if you're skeptical of the theories, there are positive messages to take out of this book for readers to implement in their life. It's an inspirational read - I've been proactive in noticing the negative things I think and turning them into positive thoughts, and the chapter about absorbing pain and suffering from the food you eat has made me give up meat for good. Those who are fascinated with gut-feelings, the sense that you're being watched, houses holding memories of past inhabitants etc. will also love this!
It's a really enjoyable read and one that I'll be recommending and re-reading for years to come. David's other books are on my wishlist now too!
Yes, this book will open your eyes to everything's connectedness and so it should. But as he says, the change for the better starts within oneself and I for one, did not find this book helping me much on my personal quest for a better, more compassionate and fulfilling life.
I did feel it took time to get to the nitty gritty though, the 2nd half being somewhat better than the first.
So I have no hesitation in passing on the recommendation.
Research results, sparkling style, passion for the subject - and all life.
absolutely loooove it!!
Go and hear David H. at one of his conferences or seminars - you won't regret it - ever. and always be happy you went-and got the book :-)))
