With the same number of tracks as the ABCKO CDissued 2 years ago only the obvious hits are repeated. Many of these songs have never been heard before as Dee dee Sharp's original albums were never available in the U K.
The oddly titles Be My Girl is not the same song as any others of this name and is in fact based on Gene Chandler's Duke Of Earl.
Her version of 100 lbs of Clay seems to be rather flogging the idea of the Twist-here she thanks the Almighty for creating Chubby Checker! Even Splish Splash has the Twist man's name dropped
Remember you're mine is the same song as Pat Boone charted with and a reminder that its actually a Cameo Parkway copyright originally cut by Ray Vernon brother of Link Wray. However its practically turned into a new song as the Love Letters arangement is used to great effect.
Which reminds me-how long before the Complete Ketty Lester Era recordings are to be made available?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love DEE DEE SHARP 31 Aug. 2012
By Rosalind Ross - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Doing the Mashed Potato was the first dance I learned, the Bird was next, at the age of 64 today, I can still do both dances.

Some people live their entire lives not remembering the fun they had learning to dance. This CD helped me go back way back and I thank who ever put this CD together for the fond memories.

In my opinion It's Mashed Potato Time/ Do the Bird and DEE DEE SHARP, should be considered legend, she sang her way into the hearts of teenagers of the time.

It's Mashed Potato Time/ Do The Bird is rich with musical history, it is with love that this collection should be enjoyed. This CD want let you down,I welcomed it with open arms and I'am still danceing.

POSITIVE POINTS:

1 The album “Do The Bird” is making its CD debut. Most of the reissue labels in UK are only releasing materials up to 1962, due to the Public Domain law. “Do The Bird” was released in 1963. There are many singles from that album making their CD debut too, as noted above.
2 The sound is very well remastered: clean with no hiss.
3 There is a wonderful 8-page booklet, with an informative essay by Ed Osborne. But the most treasured aspect is that 4 pages were entirely devoted to the front and back covers of the above albums, each occupying the entire page. Jasmine Records, please take note. This is the way that booklet should be done.

NEGATIVE POINT:

1 No chart position was provided.

COMPLETE SINGLES DISCOGRAPHY:

Although Dee Dee Sharp has 13 charted singles on Billboard Hot 100, I have just finished compiling a Complete Singles Discography, and discovered that she actually has 33 singles from 1962 to 1981 (only 62 songs, not 66 songs, because 3 songs were repeated releases and one b-side belonged to Chubby Checker). Her labels are: (1) Cameo (1962 – 1966), (2) Fairmount (1966), (3) Atco (1966 – 1968), (4) Gamble (1968 – 1970), (5) TSOP (1970 – 1976), and (6) Philadelphia International (1977 – 1981).

To get all the songs, you will need the current set, plus “Hurry On Down, It’s Mashed Potato Time” (Jasmine Records, 2015, 2CDs, 53 songs), “It’s Mashed Potato Time” (Park 554, 31 songs), “All The Hits” (Campark Records, 1993, 33 songs), “Best of Dee Dee Sharp: Cameo-Parkway 62-66” (Abkco, 2005, 24 songs) and “Happy Bout The Whole Thing/What Color Is Love/Dee Dee” (Edsel Records, 2 CDs, 2010). Her output on Atco label is sorely missing on CDs, but fortunately all the songs are readily available on-line except one song (the b-side to Conquer The World Together by Dee Dee Sharp Gamble and Bunny Sigler).

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Dee Dee Sharp was born Dione LaRue on September 9, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She later married record producer Kenny Gamble and became Dee Dee Sharp Gamble. Her Cameo year was her golden year, with many of her big hits. I still remember how to dance the Mashed Potato. She has an illustrious singing career. Her last single “Break And Entering” (as Dee Dee Sharp Gamble) topped the Billboard Dance/Disco Chart for 4 weeks!

To complete my collection on Dee Dee Sharp, I bought the above set mainly to get “Do The Bird” album with many rare gems. The entire set is very enjoyable, with great sound, and is highly recommended, especially for collectors.

I have two vinyl lp's by dee dee sharp of "Its Mashed Potato Time" I will let these two records rest. The cd of this lp and "Do The Bird"
have a super sound. If you want cds to sound even better buy yourself a floor model stereo from the 1970's or 1980's remove the back cover unplug the RCA jacks from the phonograph and plug in your 5 disc cd player you will be amazed at the sound quality! I remember Mashed Potato by Dee Dee Sharp in 1962. I was 15 at the time now I am 63 years old and listen to my music i grew up with. They had good music in the 1960's imagine 48 years ago and the cd sounds just as fresh as the day it was released. Hey I can still do the Limbo Rock but that's another story. Abkco did a super job on all the releases of chubby checker, bobby rydell, the orlons, Dee Dee Sharp etc. I hope ABKCO releases more of these artists also "Down To Earth" with Chubby Checker and Dee Dee Sharp this is truely a master piece.I purchased my cd's on amazon because they have a big assortment and always high quality cd's so for all you fans of Dee Dee Sharp and the rest of ABKCO cd's you can purchase them with confidence.
