Eight friends meet for their monthly brunch. What starts as a pseudo therapy session and an airing of domestic grievances takes a sudden turn when the city falls victim to a mysterious attack.

Trapped in the house and unsure of their fates, these seemingly normal people become increasingly unhinged........

Its a bizarre film for sure, and to be fair, you wouldn't want to have brunch with any of these people, as they are a pretty abhorrent lot, but get past all this, and you have a little treat of a film, with some very good performances, and a funny script.

The majority of the film is set in one house, and as the threat gets closer, patience wear all the more thin, and people start to reveal their true colours.

Cross is the best thing about the film as he is the character who has the biggest change of personality in the film. Yes others change, but it's their attitude toward one another, and their desperation. Cross on the other hand is just plain bizarre.

It's not a film for everyone, it took me a while to get over the smugness of the characters, but its unique, funny, and the final scene is pretty genius.

Four couples meet up for a regular Sunday Brunch, meanwhile on he outside world a terror campaign had hit major cities in the US and armageddon beckons... Admittedly after the first 30 minutes of the movie I was hoping for a direct hit from a nuclear weapon to fly through their front window, but bare with it, once the grim realisation of their impending doom hits the cast, the movie moves up a gear. Smart, funny, with a very amusing finale and final scene and some witty banter.

HASH(0x92abab40) out of 5 stars Another example of how the low budget under-the-radar movies are better then big Hollywood movies. HILARIOUS!!! I say A-. 25 April 2013

"Johnny-crazy-balls over here is going to save us all from Armageddon." Every now and then a group of four couples get together for brunch at someone's house. Today is that day and Tracy (Stiles) is bringing her new boyfriend Glen (Cross) over to meet them for the first time. The conversation begins to unravel quickly and secrets come out that threaten to ruin the brunch, then they find out that the world may be coming to an end. This is another movie I didn't watch any of the previews for so I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say that this is one of the funnies indi-comedies that I have seen and I laughed out loud just about the whole way through. The writing is so good and each character had his or her own little quirks which made it really fun to watch. This is the kind of movie where each joke builds on the next one and there is so much going on that you can't turn away nor do you want to. This is one of the funniest movies I have seen in awhile and I highly recommend seeing this. I loved it. Overall, another example of how the low budget under-the-radar movies are better then the big Hollywood blockbusters. I give it an A-.

HASH(0x92872d44) out of 5 stars Uncomfortable as it is funny 21 July 2013

The movie makes you feel very uncomfortable for the David Cross character. This is a dark comedy and a great one. Very many good lines and a great story to boot. Way better that the "This is the End" crap movie. So much better. Shame this wasn't able to take it's place in the theaters. The ending is perfect.

HASH(0x92638b7c) out of 5 stars Very black humor 6 Mar. 2014
By Alan A. Elsner - Published on Amazon.com
Several youngish couples gather for a regular Sunday brunch with the one unattached woman in the group bringing along a new boyfriend. Meanwhile, several dirty bombs have been dropped on the city and America is under attack.

Such is the premise for this black comedy which mocks the mating and social habits of thirty-something suburbanites trying to maintain viable and interesting long-term relationships and marriages while beset by triviality and boredom. The movie is well-written and well-acted and often very funny. Despite the cosmic events going on outside the duct-taped semi-detatched where all the action takes place, these couples remain fixated on their indiscretions and infidelities.

Another couple who always show up late are refused admission and left to die on the doorstep. "You're so inconsiderate. You never come on time. People cook food to be eaten hot and you never come on time," the Julia Stiles character tells her friend outside who is breathing nerve gas.

The new boyfriend turns out to be a scary Christian fundamentalist. The ditzy new age vegan woman is just as shallow as she seems. The nerdy one who buys comic books on e-bay is convinced aliens are attacking. The math teacher who has been engaged for six years but never set a date wants to be a dope fiend.

It's different and very good.

HASH(0x928b115c) out of 5 stars Absurdist 8 Aug. 2013
By Eric Sanber - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
you don't see many of this type of movie any more. Seeing this, I'm not certain if that's a good or bad thing.

Here's the scoop. Four couples, some married some not, gather for a Sunday brunch. Before things get rolling stuff starts to happen. Cell phones, land lines, computers etc all go on the fritz. It turns out dirty bombs have been detonated in various cities across the country and it's but a few hours before these folks have left to live. So what do they do?

As I mentioned this is an absurdist comedy. You start by meeting these people and you get a feel for the dynamic in place. Tracy (Julia Stiles) is bringing her new boyfriend Glen (David Cross) to introduce him to the crew. Shane (Jeff Grace) is there with his fiance Hedy (America Ferrera). They've been engaged for four years with no wedding date in sight. Emma and Pete Mandrake are hosting but have not told their friends of their impending divorce. Lexi and Buck Kivel are present and seemed to have seduced most everyone else there. So when the word comes down on what has happened these folks don't react in a way I'd figure most folks would react. It were almost as though it didn't happen. The attendee's pretty much keep up with the small time, petty b.s. they'd begun with. I have to assume that writer/director Todd Berger is presenting this as a sign of our times. The Shane character is way too absorbed in comic book culture. When he gets the news of the bombings he's trying to determine how long it is before people "turn" (into the walking dead I presume). And the Mandrakes, even though they are divorcing, are upset because they find out during all this that each has had an affair with one of the Kivels. This is all so counter-intuitive. It was tough to digest. I liked it. It was very Woody Allen-esque with some clever and insightful dialogue, but I couldn't help but want to shake these people and tell them to snap out of it and smell the coffee.

The acting, directing, etc is all really good. Stiles and Cross in particular did a fine job, so this all moves very smoothly. But what's with that ending? Could Berger simply not figure out what to do or did I miss what he was trying to say?

See it. It's fun and entertaining. It's also pretty freakin' weird.

HASH(0x930414d4) out of 5 stars This was a crazy dark comedy with pretty good acting 28 Sept. 2014

This was a crazy dark comedy with pretty good acting. I have to say the cast was solid and you truly have to appreciate underlying humor otherwise this will be totally lost on you. As for the ending, don't expect anything...literally, don't expect anything. As it neared the end i started getting super nervous, thinking how the hec can this turn out? Well I usually dont like endings like that but for this movie it certainly seemed appropriate. If it's free watch it but i certainly would not pay money to do so or really recommend it to anyone else. I can take a bad or so so movie, i certainly won't recommend one.
