It was a well thought out and researched book. I love the central character of Isobel. I am glad she came to her senses in the end. I think it definitely needs another book with a happy ending with Nico.

If you are a fan of romantic fiction then I think you will enjoy this book. If you prefer your chick-lit characters to have a bit more 'Oomph' then maybe you should try a different book....
This was my first time reading any of O'Flanagan's books. I certainly will give them another go, though I prefer my heroines to be a bit sparkier and slightly less pathetic!
As you no doubt have discovered, the book centres on Isobel after her wedding has been cancelled at the last minute. There is a lot of mooching about before she finally gets her act into gear and we can enjoy her experiences. Unfortunately she turns out to be a not particularly likeable person.
Although overall I enjoyed this book, and was interested to see how things worked out for her (or otherwise), there are better books in this genre.

I read this book while on holiday and found that I couldn't put it down and having gone through the same as Isobel found that I could relate to it. This book is a story about a girl who thinks her life has ended and her struggle to get her life back on track again. I found myself really caring about Isobel and laughed alot throughout the book until I got to the end. I felt Sheila could have told us a little more about what was going to happen to Isobel instead of the abrupt way she ended it hence the 3 stars. Still worth a read though.

I enjoyed this book, mainly because I could empathise with Isobel having previously found myself in the same position as her with a cancelled wedding on my hands and a feeling of 'what do I do now...?'
I think the story captures the feelings of wanting to run away from the present and try to make a new future while still holding onto hope for the unfinished business of the past. I've been there too!
I found the ending a little predicatable and unsatisfying but that's probably true to life too! However, it entertained me and I would recommend it for anyone who likes a good story that moves relatively quickly. A good holiday read!

After 3 days of being constantly glued to this book, I can proudly say I have finally finished! :D

I can confidently say that I am NEVER buying a 599 paged book.. again.. I am wayyy too impatient... and I found that the middle of the book dragged on for more than it really needed to.. causing me to lose my temper more than once! :P!
I loved the beginning of the book... it really did have me hooked... and if it hadnt been for the brilliant start... I would have put the book down after a few chapters!

Towards the end of the book.. I was VERY dissapointed! But the dissapointment turned to pure amazement after reading the last few pages!
One review had said that "the ending was predictable"... I must be an idiot.. because I really didnt expect that... and Im glad that was the way it ended.

I do feel however, that we could have been told more about Isobel's future! So I suppose that was a bit irritating! I REALLY want to know what happens next.. and it will probably bug me til my dying day :D lol!

Isobels character did start to annoy me later on in the book.. (surprisingly.. I only started to see her flaws after someone had pointed them out in their review). But yes, she was a stroppy cow! How anyone could want to marry her is beyond me... anyway... Im going to stop talking now.. before I end up typing out the whole story!

All in all... a gripping read... (sometimes).... I think Ms O'Flanagan has done well! :D

3 Cheers and 3 Stars! :)

I've something to add.... :)
If you want to know what happens to Isobel, read Connections. Its full of short stories based on some of Sheila's characters, and one of them happens to be about Ms Isobel and what shes been getting up to after that shocking day! =D

I'll start of by saying, I am really surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did. I'm not usually a Sheila O'Flanagan type of girl and there was something very 90's about this (probably the fact it was written in the 90's but shhh!) anyway - I couldn't put it down!

It starts off with Isobel enthusing over her upcoming wedding. Her fiance Tim asks to meet her two weeks before and calls the entire thing off. He tells her he isn't ready amongst other things and Isobel basically loses her marbles. She jets off to Madrid to work, sleeps with various unsuitable men, briefly becomes an unstable alcoholic and makes many mistakes (I just need to point out that isobel was a vile, unlikeable character throughout - I loathed this woman).

A friends wedding sees her back in Dublin for the weekend where she bumps into Tim, the man who broke her heart and ruined her life - and he's changed his tune.

This was fabulous! Not only do I feel like I was taken on a stunning journey through the city of Madrid, but the ending was spot-on - despite taking over 500 pages to get there! And although I detested Isobel (I am yet to find a character in a Sheila O'Flanagan book that actually sounds like a nice person. Strange), I just wanted more, more, more!
