I have been using the old Ian Parsons edition for years and didn't think I needed this new one. But it is excellent - the notes and scholarly apparatus make reading Rosenberg even more interesting than he already is. The design of the book also adds to the pleasure - nice clear type, well set out.

This is about perfect as an edition of Rosenberg. In paperback it's not as unwieldy as previous books, and the contents are a comprehensive and well-judged selection from across his work; the poems appear cleanly, with Noakes's compelling notes found to the back of the volume – which even makes this a perfectly good starting place for students or other first-time readers; and best of all, the text draws on the big OUP Clarendon behemoth, and corrects the inaccuracies found in the Chatto & Windus and Enitharmon editions (to use just two examples), whereby earlier drafts, or cancelled lines, were printed in place of the actual finished poems presented here. As for the actual writing, those who know Rosenberg already know how extraordinary much of his verse is – and those coming to the poet for the first time can pick up this book knowing his place in the 21st Century Oxford Authors series, alongside Browning, Wordsworth and others, is more than deserved.
