Rise of the Technovore is the story of the launch of Stark's all-seeing satellite called Howard. During the launch, the site is attacked by the Raiders under the control of the Technovore. With the satellite launched the Technovore plans to take over all systems and erase humanity, which he sees as inferior, from the face of the planet. Only one man has the technology to stop him - enter Iron Man.

Well, where to begin with this mess? I am a big fan of Iron Man and had looked forward to this but was sorely disappointed, the voice acting and animation is laughable, the dialogue is campy and there are far too many scenes where it is just a diagonal perspective shot of the character whilst the scenery flies past in an unintelligible blur behind. In fact the first fifteen minutes of the film are just this exact set-up alternating between Iron Man and War Machine having a race whilst they wreck the Grand Canyon with missiles and repulsor rays whilst 80's style guitar solos wail in the background - in this universe all canyons must be the exact width of a S.H.I.E.L.D. interceptor throughout their entire length with no vertical variation to the floor. When the bad guys show up, in typical Japanese stylings (thank you director Hiroshi Hamazaki-san) Iron Man proceeds to practically nuke the entire satellite base defeating them then proceeds to launch the rocket anyhow...right. What's more nonsensical is that the Technovore even bothered attacking the launch-facility as he secretly wanted Stark to launch Howard anyhow, why did he even bother showing up?!?!

This was a big let down when the Invincible ironman came out a few years ago (Animated Version) it was one of the best animated films i have ever seen, plus it was a spin off from the first Ironman movie but the animated version was better, BUT THIS FILM, IS AWFUL THE ANIMATION IS 10 YEARS OUT OF DATE, AND THE FILM ITSELF IS RUBBISH.

I'm not a fan of anime or manga, so it was with a litte trepidation that I even purchased this DVD. With that in mind then I pleased to say that it exceeded my expectations.

The story seems to be broadly based on the Marvel movie universe (Nick Fury is of the back variety, Black Widow and Hawkeye are SHIELD agents, Tony and Pepper are in a relationship etc), and the premise is that as Stark is about to launch a new satellite that will accurately predict disasters, terrorist attacks and other world threats, the launch faciity is attacked by a mysterious new armoured villain using a previously unseen form of technology.

The villain stops the launch, kills all of the base staff, and apparantly kills Starks best friend James Rhodes (War Machine). Nick Fury and SHIELD, believing that Stark may have had something to do with the attack, intend to take him into custody pending an investigation, but Stark goes rogue. What follows is a cat-and-mouse chase between Stark and SHIELD as he attempts to elude them whist simultaniously avenging Rhodes and stopping this new enemy, which includes an impromptu team up with Frank Castle (The Punisher).

I wasnt really a fan of the art, which was quite typical of the anime genre, however that said I have to admit that it was very well animated indeed, and the action sequences were fast, dynamic and exciting. As appears to be the norm for an anime movie, this film is full of big mech's, an enemy who is almost entirely composed of tenticles, and many of the characters look broadly similar to each other.

Iron Man being marvels "futurist" lends himself perfectly to the Anime style. Fast paced with cutting edge technology. I would have liked to give this movie 3 1/2 stars but I rounded down. Simply because the faults outweighed the strengths. It should have a slightly higher age rating. Mainly because the Black Widow seems to have a broken zipper on her jump suit constantly shuck half way down. No complaint from me but it might be a good idea to watch the movie before showing it to younger kids. There are also more than a few grizzly death so be warned.

The animation is great. Very fasted passed essentially going from one fight to set up another. The story line is loosely based or the Invincible Iron Man, The: Extremis storyline. I say loosely because the storyline is very weak and take a back seat to the action scenes, which is what this anime is about. The main villain has infected himself with nanotech to make him make himself smarter, leading to a breakthrough in bio-technological amour, making Tony's Iron Man interface look like it is going in slow motion. Sort of comparing Windows Vista Vs. Windows 8. The trouble is these are taking over his mind completely so only the machine is left wanting to take over the world. There were some silly mistakes in the story line as well. An example the first attack on the satellite the main villain attacks the satellite launch station killing 300 people to launch the satellite which was going to be launched anyway? Apart from introducing him and a quick exchange with Iron Man they was no point to the attack.
