From Amazon.co.uk

The return of Tony Stark, in the guise of Robert Downey Jr, in Iron Man 2 proves to be a welcome one. For Downey Jr utterly owns the dual role of Stark and Iron Man, and in this entertaining superhero sequel, he’s given a tricky nemesis to fight.

The foe is Mickey Rourke’s Ivan Vanko, introduced properly in a staggering action sequence set at Historic Grand Prix of Monaco. Director Jon Favreau stages this superbly, and Iron Man 2 manages to pack plenty into its opening 40 minutes as a result.

The foot does go off the gas, though, in the middle part of the film, when Iron Man 2 does get bogged down by a few too many characters and plot points. But there’s regularly something to keep the attention up, before all bets are off for the entertaining finale.

Iron Man 2 may not be a perfect sequel, but it’s certainly a good one. And it’s a thorough and rigorous home cinema workout, too. Boasting spectacular visuals and a thunderous surround sound mix, the Blu-ray edition of the film is a thrilling ride, and the best way to enjoy an already-worthwhile movie. --Jon Foster --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I am one of the few people, it seems, who was only luke warm to the original Iron Man. So I wasn't that hot to see Iron Man 2 , but several friends wanted to go see it. I tagged along, and it turns out I'm glad I did.

It's been roughly six months since Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) revealed to the world that he is Iron Man. From the outside, things are looking up for him. He's created world peace since villains are afraid of Iron Man. And he's opening a year long expo devoted to showing off the latest and greatest in technology to make our lives better.

But all isn't wonderful. Tony is called before a Senate committee that pretty much demands he turns over his Iron Man suits. The element Tony uses to power the suits (and his replacement heart) is slowly killing him. And there's a man in Russia who is building his own suit to get his revenge on Tony. Will Tony survive any of this?

My biggest problem with the first movie was the Tony Stark character. He was a womanizing, arrogant, drunk. And those were his good qualities. Here, they've managed to tone it down. Oh, it's still there, especially in the first few scenes. But the story grounds Tony so much more, so I could relate to him.

There are actually several sub-plots going on here, and they keep things hopping. There was never time to get bored because we were always on to the next story. Yet everything was pieced together so well I was able to follow things perfectly. There are some plot holes, but I never even thought about them until after the movie was over. And I have to give them credit for bring everything together to a great climax.

Okay, so while I did enjoy the climax, I actually think my favorite action scene was earlier in the movie.

There is a lot of talking in this movie in between the action sequences - I'm sure they could have trimmed 20 mins off the length. However, the action scenes are good and Mickey Rourke does make a decent bad guy. Sam Rockwell also plays the jealous villain wannabe to great effect. Blu ray picture and sound were great, not quite as good as Avatar or Sucker Punch (in my opinion, two of the best).
Would like some confirmation from other reviewers - I wonder whether my copy of Iron Man 2 (Triple Play) is official product or not - blu ray case was thinner and more rounded on corners than standard blu ray case and small print on rear cover could not be read due to poor print quality - discs all present but just have black print on, no colours/pictures - digital download code worked so assumed must be original - is this a correct description of this version?

After the surprisingly entertaining Iron Man, expectations were very high for the sequel. Once again Robert Downey Jr does a fantastic job as Tony Stark/Iron Man who is now attempting to balance his two lives as a billionaire and superhero.

Unfortunately, this film is let down by two pretty one-dimensional villains played by Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell. The action is also a little over the top, particularly during a drunken fight between Stark and Rhodey and Don Cheadle while a decent replacement for Terrance Howard is a bit of a step down.

I will avoid reviewing the film here as some people do simply because its the product and not the film i want to comment on. I like the film enough to buy the DVD so that really should be enough in itself.

Like many who have reviewed this already i bought the special edition for the fact it was the special edition and at least expected there to be a 'making of' feature on the one of the TWO discs... how mistaken i was. The previous films special edition, or Ultimate Edition as it was called, there is nearly four times as much extra stuff spread out over the two discs. In fact nearly all of what is stretched over this two disc 'special' could be placed on one disc.

I can't help but feel cheated in some respects and think that the creation of this edition was simply done to make people part with their cash for the promise of more... which sadly isn't there. The extra disc seems to literally be that, a disc added to the box to give the appearance of value for money as there is no difference between the standard editions movie disc and that of the specials!

The smart thing here, if you want to simply own the film, is to buy the cheaper, standard edition which is just movie disc.

I watched this film on a friend's extra large smart television. So had the opportunity of seeing it in all it's glory, together with surround sound. It was good, but not so good as the first film. I can't put my finger on it, but definitely something was missing, and it seemed bland in parts and too long. Too much talk, and not enough action I think. Micky Rourke was good though as the villain. To view this film once is enough, I believe. I look forward to the third episode.

The third film in the marvel cinematic universe. A closer more personal story that forces us take a deep look at Tony's flaws and his mortality. Under that armour he is after all just a man, and a very flawed one at that. Watching Tony protect his invention from the U.S Government while battling with a mix of his ego, illness, competitors, daddy issues and alcohol is a humbling experience that captivates the audience. It forces us to take a second look at the man we put our faith in and at some point even come to root for the opposition as we spirals out of control. This receives mixed reviews from some fans due to lack of a stand out antagonist and depleted amounts of action compared to the first film. Don't get me wrong the elements are still there but not as transparently as before. Its important that viewers go into this film knowing that its a development story about Tony Stark rather than Iron Man and succeeds in expanding not only the Iron Man universe but the Marvel cinematic universe. The flowers that are the Avengers begin to bloom right here people.
