I can't comment on the sound quality of the Vinyl as I didn't open any of the albums. I sent this Boxset (and the first 6 LPs) back to Amazon as the Box is only big enough to house 6 LPs. Putting it politely .... what a monumental mess up!!! After the recent poor quality Maiden Picture Disc Boxset, I was looking forward to this 180g Black Vinyl Boxset. I am reliably informed by YouTube Vinyl Community friends over the Water that the US Box is bigger and CAN hold all 8 LPs (including the two Gatefold Sleeves) and it's just this European version that is smaller....

Oh well, like most of the Maiden fans who play Vinyl, I'll have to stick to my original issues (which are great)

Before I get bashed by diehard Maiden fans, this is not a review of the individual albums, which are brilliant and are produced in excellent quality vinyl here.
This is a review of the box set product as a whole.

Anyone who like myself, now owns all 8 LPs which the box is supposed to hold will already have discovered a massive problem.
The flaw? You guessed it... There is no way to fit all 8 albums in the box!

The sad thing is, it's really obvious what happened. The packaging designers didn't actually test a mockup with the actual albums and they sent the box into production based on having space for 8 standard LPs. No-one thought to tell them that Piece Of Mind was a gatefold or that Live after Death was a double album.

Sorry, but a company the size of EMI letting this one passed quality control?
Really out of order guys!
Replacement boxes should be supplied free of charge.
That will never happen obviously, but it should.

Well I guess on the plus side, I can now use the box to hide my 'bongo mags' from the missus ;)

As a fan who has never owned these before on vinyl this box set is the perfect way to kick off an Irons vinyl collection. I have given a listen to all three albums and am really happy with the quality. These are pristine pressings on solid, black heavyweight vinyl with quality sleeve reproductions and proper inner sleeves, antistatic, poly lined and black.
The collector's box is nice enough - a tidy minimalistic front, with album covers and track listings on the back, all on thick red card that shouldn't scuff easily and will sit nicely on the shelf. I'm not even going to review the music in depth - if you're here, you know what you're in for.

Why 4* rather than 5*? I am disappointed (but not surprised) that the rest of the collection will be coming out in the £19-£28 price range. It's also a great idea to accompany these reissues with reproductions of the singles, but again the price shift for the next batch is around the 9.99 mark - sorry, too much for a 7" reissue, however great the band is.

Finally, I think that it's a missed opportunity to not have included some kind of commemorative hardback book in a collector set like this, a retrospective of the iconic art, or interviews with the band reflecting on the albums. Still, at the end of the day, it's about the music and I'm well pleased with these pressings. I sympathise with those who are disappointed that these come out so soon after the ill-received picture discs - my advice for the casual listener would be to try and shift those on ebay and pick up this set - collectors will inevitably end up with both. Gotta fuel that plane somehow, right Bruce?

If you're buying this you'll already love the music and the great Black Vinyl reissues, so this is just for information. If you have the smaller red box Email with name and address and asking for the larger Red Box to: customerserviceteam@warnermusic.com They will send you a slightly larger Red Box for all the vinyl to fit in. Cheers everyone.

There's been a lot of debate about the re-releasing of these albums. For everybody who claimed this was just a money grab by the band I'd like to politely disagree. this is exactly what we've asked for. Great Sound quality on black vinyl 180 grain...when they released the albums with the limited edition picture vinyl people complained that the sound quality was poor and this was the demand by the consensus.seeing these gorgeous album covers re-released just reminds me how bad I want Derek Riggs to come back for future album artwork..Recent artwork has been lacking the sheer power that Derek Riggs commands in his illustrations.. ..Hopefully when the new album is released we get back to having some 7 inch singles released on vinyl again like the good old days.
UP THE IRONS !!!

As a massive Maiden collector, I had to buy this set, even though I didn't need it! I have all the original pressings, but went for these anyway. What can I say about them? Well the box is very nice, as the picture disc reissues box was, and is the same design as that. I left the cellophane on the box and just cut out the opening, as this will keep it protected. The pressings are all on heavyweight vinyl and play very quietly with no distortion or crackling. The covers are very glossy and also heavyweight cardboard. The reissues are a straight copy of the original presses, with the labels and inner sleeves an exact copy. This is why 'Iron Maiden' and 'Killers' have a plain black inner sleeve, the way they were originally released! There is nothing new here, apart from the heavier vinyl, but if you are a collector, want to protect your original presses or they are a first time purchase, you won't go wrong here.
