...indicative from the very start with this descriptive text from the introduction:

'Ireland is a beguiling and charming land with a culture steeped in myth and legend, fairy tale and folklore. The very breath of the wind in the trees, the babbling of the water in the stream, the lowing of cattle in the deep green pastures and the crackling of the fire in the hearth all draw us into Ireland's mysterious past.
Its foods, feasts and festivals are linked to the timeless rural calendar and the changing seasons of the year. Here the past is evoked and the spirits of Ireland, with the bounty from the land, sea and shore, are laid before you in words and pictures...............'

And the introduction goes on to include informative sections on 'Irish Myth and Legend', 'Fairies and Folklore' (including The Leprechaun') and 'Feasts and Festivals' ........

'Irish Food and Folklore' brings to life the traditions, life-styles, and cooking of Ireland.
With over 100 authentic Irish recipes, detailed descriptions of Irish heritage and myths and a glossary of Irish phrases, it is sure to be invaluable and inspirational to all.'

The book was brand new and excellent value for money. It arrived quickly and without problems. It is full of great ( if you like cheese, onions and potatoes as staples) recipes which are easy to follow and work well. A super buy, reccommended by a friend who bought her book in Ireland when it was first published and has used it often.

This beautifully presented collection of true Irish-kitchen recipes is now in permanent use in my kitchen. It gave me clear instructions to achieve excellent results first time! I bought an incredibly low-priced used copy and I was amazed at the quality of the item when it arrived a matter of days soon after. I gave the 5-star rating not only for the book and its content but also for the service that provided me with a high quality, used-copy so speedily.

HASH(0x8e4f7534) out of 5 stars An Irish masterclass of Food and Folklore - delicious! 19 Jun. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Clare Connery has never lost touch with her roots in the countryside of the north of Ireland. Not for her the ephemeral fashion food fads which are here today and gone tonight! She chooses to concentrate on all that is good and wholesome from the land of green and plenty.
Her first major book 'In an Irish country kitchen' is an outstanding work tracing the culinary history of Ireland set against the colourful social development of the island. It is Easy to read and beautifully illustrated. If you cannot travel to Ireland then read this book and you'll be transported there.
'Irish Food and Folklore' is her third Irish book (she has other subjects close to her heart and her other books include a beautiful Salad book now also available in softback, and the very recent 'Vegetable Book').
'Irish Food and Folklore' is a super introduction to the essence of Irish food. Read about the myths and legends that have contributed to many people's fascination with Ireland and try the many easy to follow traditional recipes which really do work!

HASH(0x8f174558) out of 5 stars "Irish Food and Folklore"....ah, the memories of home! 18 Feb. 2000
By Jonathan Swift - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Having read and entertained my guests to the wonderful delights of this truly Irish cookery book, I felt I should share my enthusiasm of it with fellow Amazon readers. It adds a touch of traditional Irish cuisine to our rather Scottish based diet! Clare Connery really has produced a Gem with this book and may she continue to do so.
