Product Description

Review

In this sweet story about friendship, Catherine Rayner's wonderful depictions of her ursine heroes are elegant yet also playful and child-like (not least in their initial stroppiness and obstinacy). Her gorgeous images also perfectly capture the serene beauty of the natural landscape and its soft dreamy colours, from the dark blue-green shades of an echoey cave to the magical glow creating by the Aurora Borealis Northern lights. Catherine Rayner creates very simple stories, with a lovely dreamlike quality about them. In this book we meet two polar bears, Iris and Isaac. They have just had a row, other nothing much, and stomped off in opposite directions. Both Iris and Isaac see and find interesting things as they go, which they wish they could show to their friend. At the end of the story, they are reunited, the argument forgotten and both snuggled up together. It is a very warm story, with a nice message about friendship and coping with the little arguments toddlers have. The story is not too complicated and the illustrations are stunning, with a real sense of space and light about them. Very impressive - this author just gets better and better.

This is a beautiful book with lovely illustrations and a simple story which illustrates the importance of friendship. As a teacher I have used it in PSHE lessons on falling out and making up regularly and would use it for children aged 4-8 years. It would also be a lovely story for a parent to read to their family.

This is such a beautiful book of impeccable quality, which I haven't come across in a long time. Beautifully illustrated too! I bought the book as a Christmas present for my son as he has the same name as one of the characters, this is definitely a book to keep and cherish for many years to come!

A simple story about two polar bears who have an argument over something very minor, only to stomp off in different directions. They wander around the Arctic by themselves for a while, wishing they could be sharing what they see with the other. They eventually meet again and all is forgiven and forgotten. I find the pictures absolutely stunning! They are light, airy and suit the unique setting of the book. The actual story however seems somewhat lacklustre to me and I improvise moreso then read the actual words with my daughter.

This is a really lovely book, I brought it for the pictures as Its an illustrator I have brought books of before. This one doesn't let down. However the story isn't really enough to keep the kids interested night after night, so it will get read and then probably sit in the book shelf for quite a while till it gets another looking.

Bought this for my 21 month old son as the reviews were very good. Maybe this book would be appealing to older kids, but my son couldn't get past the 2nd page & he adores books. This one is dull to say the least, the pictures are so plain I can't see how a child could ever appreciate them. The story is again completely unappealing to a young child - quite a disappointment overall.

I bought this book for my grand-daughter's first birthday who happens to be called Iris. I'm sure she is going to love seeing her name in print when she is old enough to recognise it.
