This story was more about life in Americas Deep South than in Ireland. It kept my interest, although at times there were huge grammatical mistakes.
On two separate occasions, the character Matilda's name was suddenly changed to Marina, and Carolina became Caroline then reverted back again to the original.
Nice small chapters, which I prefer .This was free when I downloaded it, and I would recommend it.

This is a really good read - the story line flows well all the way through the book - some parts of the story are very sad some happy and some funny - a slice of life you could say - well worth the read.

First of all I will explain how I came about having this book to read and review, I won it in a Goodreads Giveaway. My mum instantly decided she would review this book! My mum, rather like myself loves books set in Ireland, the country is always so well described and sounds such a great place to be in. So what did my mum think? Initially she found it difficult to get into and found it a little slow but she persevered and although the book was in her words "not what I thought it would be" did finish the book. She says she did enjoy the book and doesn't wish to give away spoilers. The book is well written and the descriptions in the book are detailed. The books main character is Rose hence the title "Ireland Rose"
For lovers of the Irish culture and so on this book is ideal.

This exquisite story about an Irish born maiden and her entanglement with a captivating Captain is simply spellbinding. Set within Charleston this novel has a distinctly American feel to it, although the main protagonist retains those links to Ireland. At a time when marriage was expected and husbands influenced a female's life greatly this story highlights the struggle for happiness and the seeking of true love. Well-written and containing accurate historical details, It was evident how much in-depth research went into writing this convincing book. What caught my eye instantly was the beautiful cover that looks so appealing on the bookshelf; I doubt anyone couldn't pass by without taking notice!

Ireland Rose is a heartrending, candid tale about a young girl who marries and then shortly becomes widowed. Captain Wyatt (her husband's trusted employee) casts upon her a motherless child, whom she takes into her care without question. During 1886 and the earthquake that shook Charleston, she turns to her parents home in Ireland for comfort and safety. In constant pursuit of happiness and determined to only ever marry again for love, the mysterious Captain Wyatt turns up unexpectedly to shake her heart once more...this Christian romance contains a profound inner meaning, as Ireland Rose's soul-searching comes to its conclusion.

As a religious person and a reader who loves to be transported back into the past, I was delighted upon encountering this enchanting story that contained so much poignancy and substance. Patricia Strefling is clearly an accomplished author of romantic fiction, as the perfect blend of action and adventure with spine-tingling sensational romance was just brilliant.
