Nadia lives on a normal street, with her blogging mother and an annoying neighbour boy (Kenny), who she calls Paddle Boy because he stole her kayak paddle. She is desperate to be a journalist, and builds possible stories about her neighbours. One day, she discovers the invisible boy - a kid who does not seem to go to school, and spends all his time working in the backyard, frightened of others. She makes up imaginary superpowers for the two of them, and eventually they become friends, and Kenny gets involved too.
She finds out that her aunt is involved in saving people from modern slavery, and works out that Eli is trapped in his house by his foster parent, not being fed or clothed properly. How will she rescue him?
This was sensitively described for children, and Nadia was a great character. There is a daring rescue attempt, and some great description of where she lives. I would recommend this to Year 6 children and up.
