By Squirr-El HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on 20 Jan. 2014
Format: Paperback
The story from issues 36-41 of Image Comics' Invincible are collected as Invincible: My Favorite Martian v. 8 (Invincible). This is an extremely entertaining comic, and although story might not be entirely original, this is made up for with excellent scripting and artwork.

THE SPOILER ZONE
This set of issues starts with #36 and the return of Doc Seismic and the Legions of Underearth, just in time for our new Martian superhero to make his introduction to the Guardians of the Globe, who promptly recruit him; just in time, as we will see further down the line. Back in college, William has an idea for finding the missing Rick, which works so well that he's soon on the mad scientist's operating table, with Invincible up to his neck in Reanimen, including the sought after Rick...

Issue #37 sees Rick the Reaniman save the day in the fight with the mad scientist, while Rudy (the Robot) and Monster Girl go on a date.

Issue #38 sees Allen the Alien finally recover from his injuries, bigger and stronger than ever before, and the Great Thaedus reveals his big Viltrumite secret... while Mark and Amber go on a date, and a Martian invasion is detected... and Invincible and Eve sort of kiss, while the Immortal and Repli-Kate elope.

Issue #39 sees Cecil briefing the Guardians about the Martian invasion, and Shapesmith (our Martian stowaway) revealing all he knows about the Sequids and the Martians and the Astronaut who was left behind... and a rescue team is quickly assembled and shuttled off to intercept the Martian warship. Meanwhile, the Lizard League captures a nuclear missile base, and the remaining Guardians are sent to deal with them.

Ok if you are a comic book fan but are bored with the same things from both Marvel and DC then this Title is what you need.
It is new with very few continuity problems and has a writing style similar to the old greats from the 60's 70 era.

The artwork is amazingly drawn by Ryan Ottley who is now one of my top favourite comic book artists with vibrant colours and detailed action scenes. In this volume characters are further developed and we see the strain of what it is like balancing being a hero and a normal person.
But the big thing here without spoiling it is a huge battle in space and a bigger threat that occurs on the planet at the same time as well as a few continuing plot threads.

The unfortunate thing about this book is that it is volume 8 so if you are new to the title my advice would be to start from volume one and work your way up, it is totally worth it as the story telling keeps you hooked as to what happens next.

Robert Kirkman is definatley a writter to watch out for and I will be looking at some of his other titles soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invicible continues to amaze 11 July 2007
By Caramel Crusader - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Anyone who has read Invincible can tell you that it is one of the best super hero comic books out their. Kirkman has delivered the goods with this series and this volume is no different. This wraps up and continue to develop plotlines that were introduced several volumes back. This volume is packed with the kind of action and humor that fans ofthe series have come to love. Kirkman's phenomenal writing continues to take this book in directions that will leave all of his readers in awe. If you are new to invincible I hate to say it but you have to start from the beginning to fully enjoy it however if you have been reading this title all along, quit wasting your time reading this and order the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 20 Feb. 2008
By Robert Casaletta - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Kirkman, as far as I'm concerned, is the premiere superhero writer working in comics today. His work isn't necessarily as dark or violent as some of the other artists currently producing stuff, but (in my opinion) it's easily the best. Invincible is a believable hero, with great dialogue and interesting characters. Kirkman makes you care about all the people in his books- there's less "violence for the sake of violence" so that when a fight really comes around, it has some kind of impact.

This particular volume picks up on a thread from one of the earliest Invincible storylines and weaves a pretty good tale out of it. I'd recommend picking up all of the Invincible trades... and take a look at Kirkman's Walking Dead, while you're at it! The guy is just a great writer.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story-telling and likable characters make this a fantastic book to read. 22 May 2015

I love these books. Coming from someone that still has a collection of various titles, this stands out as my favorite. The characters are fleshed out and much more than one-liner, big muscled, heroes. The story flows without getting too bogged up in geek speak and gratuitous violence. Anyone looking for a series of books that is different and truly enjoyable, this is the title for you.
5.0 out of 5 stars Invincible is a solid story by an amazing Author 8 July 2013

By book 8 if you're buying it you know why it's fantastic. Compelling story of a boy who finds out he's an alien and has super powers trying to do right in a world full of wrong. Each of the characters has a solid story and I love any book where anyone is disposable.
