This story belongs to Devon, who we met before in book 2, and where it can be read as a standalone I do think it's worth reading in order as some of the previous characters feature in this book also.
FBI agent Devon returns to his hometown to find the love her walked away from, Tegan, very much is danger. The story takes us on their journey of rekindled love and surviving deadly threats.
A lovely little read with a great HEA. Only reason I deducted a star is I felt the book started dragging a little between 60-75% probably because of Devon's indecisiveness that I just didn't feel was necessary. However the later half pulled it back for me and ended being a really good read.
I was so excited when I heard the third book in the Kingpin series, was Devon's Story.
From the moment I read about those piercing green eyes, I was in intrigued and needed to know more about him. So this book was like a dream come true and one of my favourite books by J.L.Beck.
Devon goes through hell in his younger years. The only light in his darkness, is the love of his life Tegan. On the day of graduation Devon decides to leave town and break-up with Tegan. He feels he will ruin her life, she will be better off without him and doesn't think for a minute what his decision will do to her......
Years have gone by and Devon has done nothing but think about Tegan...
He receives information of strange activity in a diner of his home town and while on leave, decides to go and check it out. Never in a million years, did he think Tegan would still be in town, and what he finds shocks him to the core....
This is a story of a love that conquers all and is beautifully written. Thank you J.L.Beck <3
I liked Devon and Tegan as a couple. She was a bit dim at times but she had a sweetness about her.
It was good to see that MS Beck can write about different characters and give them their own voice.
I enjoyed it.
I loved so many things about this book - the characters, the story line, the sexual tension, and (of course) the steamy sex scenes. I fell in love with this story from the moment I read the first synopsis. J.L. Beck did a good job with this story, but it wasn't the "knock it out of the park home run" I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong, it was a great story...sexy, suspenseful, and several unexpected plot twists. But the writing was off...to me overall it fell short of the bar she set with the first two books in the series. Parts of it were amazing, but too much of the writing, the descriptions, felt repetitive. I loved how the book title was used in the story of the first two books once or twice...it was very cool and added emphasis, drawing the entire story together. On the other hand, "invincible“ was used too many times in this book that it lost its impact.
I rate this book a strong 3.5 stars, not quite 4 stars...so I'm rounding up to 4 stars.
Having read the first two books in the series I was looking forward to learning more about Devon. As an FBI agent and Zerro's partner he hasn't taken a break from work in years, never taking holiday or sick leave he's dedicated his life to the FBI. When his boss sends him away insisting he take a month off work Devon is at a loss what to do until he picks up a case file for a job in his home town. Knowing he shouldn't but not able to resist he travels back home ignoring his bosses demands. When he gets there he's ready to do some undercover recon, that is until he walks into the diner and spots Tegan.
Tegan and Devon were childhood sweethearts. Having fallen helplessly in love with him Tegan was devastated when he told her he wasn't good enough for her and they couldn't be together ever again. When she sees him back in town she can't believe he's real. Having lived the last few years without truly living and now caught up in a dangerous world that's threatening to consume her Tegan is in trouble.
When Devon learns the depths of Tegan's troubles he can't help but get involved and soon their old love for one another re-emerges once again. What follows is a story full of drama and suspense - they'll have to go through hell to get their happily ever after.
But to get that HEA they both crave Devon must decide whether to decide what's best for Tegan himself and let her go, or listen to her and his heart and let her in.
Invincible is a lot less violent than the first two books but it's not without its fair share of battles. I loved Devon and Teg together, and it was great to see how Zerro and Bree were getting on too! Dark, passionate and packed with drama this is one hot read you definitely need to add to your collection!
