Investigating Sherlock is a lovely companion to the show and I enjoyed reading it immensely. Nikki Stafford makes repeated errors about the original Sherlock canon with such confidence it is difficult not to shout at the pages. If you are a fan of the Conan Doyle stories her mistakes will frustrate you. If you are not, her mistakes will mislead you.
That said, if you are happy to ignore the incorrect Conan/Cumberbatch comparisons, there is plenty of subjective opinion to keep you enthralled. If you are a moron.

Definitely THE unofficial guide. Each episode is summarised and reviewed; interesting aspects are pointed out — some significant but easily overlooked, some amusing (mention of “a Conan Doyle novella” in The Reichenbach Fall), some just clever; slips are noted (the disappearing and reappearing skull in The Blind Banker); and the many canonical references are indicated. We know that the creators of Sherlock are devotees of Conan Doyle’s great original, but few of us, I suspect, appreciate just how much of the canon there is in the TV drama. There’s much more here, including interviews with three leading Canadian scholars, Chris Redmond, Charles Prepolec and Peter Calamai. Although we've now seen The Abominable Bride, there’s unlikely to be an updated edition of Investigating Sherlock until after Series 4; meanwhile I can thoroughly recommend this one.

Yes, it's a guide intending to look out all possible reference of BBC's Sherlock to the original stories of Sir Arther Conan Doyle. As a Sherlock fan, I was expecting more studies and passions about the character of Sherlock and how it develops throughout the series.. especially in series three - disappointing for me.
