Product description

"This is a great book that will present you a nice story about A-26, and I can highly recommend it to all interested in aviation history and in war birds in general." - Darko Mladenovic, / "There are plenty of reasons to buy this publication, most importantly is the limited amount of information available for the A-26 in both the ETO and PTO. This is a nice little one-stop shop. The model builder will be inspired by the photos and the profiles. I really enjoyed this book and, also, many of the other ones from the series. You can't go wrong here." - IPMS/USA / "This is the first book to focus exclusively on the A-26's missions in World War II... The concise, authoritative text is supported by at least 30 original color artworks, specially commissioned scale drawings, and the best archival photography from around the world." - --Flying Models (January 2011)

Book Description

The only new attack bomber developed for the US Army Air Forces during World War 2, the A-26 Invader was a superb and versatile combat aircraft, operating both as a ground attack aircraft and a medium bomber.

A very interesting book to add to my collection of books on the Invader. As a lot of them have been published along the years, anyone would be excused if saying "another one ??"
However , as an owner of most of the published material on the B-26 , I think this title deserves a a place alongside all the others on the same subject, as deals very well with the developing times of the aircraft , including also an interesting explanation on the different types of canopies, possibilities of nose changings, and other useful details. The operations side in Europe and Pacific (of which I had read nothing)is well described , and as always with the Osprey books, the color profiles are very good. Only small disapointment: no scale drawings at the end.

This book concentrates on a detailed description of one particular bomber group, with a fairly cursory review of the other A-26 units. Nevertheless, it is very interesting and well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars On of the best bombers in WW2 19 April 2014
By Scott Bailey - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Reading about this aircraft gives the reader a look at a superior aircraft used in combat. Book shows the development and the units who operated the plane. The missions are covered and the stats on shoot downs and battle damage is covered in detail. Little known fact more planes are shot down by this aircraft then they are by enemy aircraft.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good book for WWII B-26 units. 15 Feb. 2015

Very good book on A-26 units in WWII. Would love to see a similar B-26/A-26 book for Korean war and Vietnam wars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great technical and personal accounts of A-26 in action 17 Dec. 2010
By David Bower - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
What a great documentation of the evolution of Douglas A-26 "fast attack" bomber from both a mechanical and people perspective. It provides great technical documentation coupled with personal accounts uniquely bringing WWII A-26 events to life. This book with its easy read expertly details the ability of the aircraft in the hands of brave young people during intense combat situations. Quickly one is carried into technical information coupled with specific combat situations by pilots who flew the missions.
