Product Description

This is London native Wayne Escoffery's second outing on the
Nagel Heyer label. His first release 'Times Change' was most definately a
studio project whereas this time the programme features players that have
gigged together for a year and a half. Not suprisingly the recording is
entitled 'Intuition' and conveys the sense of a collective pushing the
envelope. It's the sound of highly skilled improvisors and keen listeners
reacting intuitively to the moment.
On this new release the powerful young tenorman has also upped the ante.
While displaying the same bold tone, angular lines and authoritative attack
that marked his previous outing, Escoffery kicks it up a notch in the
company of his forward-thinking colleagues Jeremy Pelt on trumpet, Gerald
Cannon on bass, Rick Germanson on piano and the irrepressible polyrhythmic
dynamo Ralph Peterson on drums.
Whereas 'Times Change' was a fine introduction to a promising new talent on
the scene, 'Intuition' documents the bristling chemistry of a working unit
while following Escoffery on the next leg of his ongoing musical journey.

Wayne Escoffery - (tenor & soprano sax), Jeremy Pelt - (trumpet), Rick
Germanson - (piano), Gerald Cannon - (bass), Ralph Peterson - (drums),
Carolyn Leonhart - (vocals - 5)

2.0 out of 5 stars not as good as the first 2 Nov. 2005

I loved "Times Change," but this one disappointed me. It is uneven, hard to listen to, and none of the tracks really stand out. Ironically, the musicians on "Intuition" are better known and arguably superior to those featured on the first album. It just goes to show that individual talent does not necessarily make a good album. If you have his first cd, order it now. It is a classic.
