If you're a big fan of Dutch band Focus, you might be intrigued by the solo work of its 2 promiment band members, Van Leer and Jan Akkerman.
Whilst the guitarist's solo work has, by and large, stayed in the 'rock' groove, Van Leer's solo work has leaned hugely to the band's classical side.
This CD brings together Van Leer's first 2 classical albums. All 18 tracks have the same distictive sound - this is orchestrator Roger Van Otterloo's lush record as much as Van Leer's, who plays the flute beautifully throughout. Half the tracks are written either by Van Otterloo or Van Leer (notably Focus I,II and III) amongst well known classic works by Bach, Handel & Faure. The arrangements are not for the classical purist (some tracks have drums that sound a bit embarrassing)and the audience is/was probably the Dutch classical-lite music fan - think James Galway in Holland.
This is for Focus completists - you'll recognise Van Leer's flute style but he won't deliver the thrill you'll get from Focus records.

I dug out the old Introspection album on vinyl, but it was only fit for the bin after a hard life and less than perfect storage. The CD was every bit as good as I remembered and the Introspection 2 was a real bonus.

This was an album I owned years ago, so I knew to extent what it was I purchasing. What I didn't know was just how fresh and memorable the pieces were. This is an excellent album from beginning to end. Catchy, well thought out pieces, leaning towards classical but with a contempary beat hidden in the background. Excellent!

A very nice type of not focus music, very much on the classical side, just nice to sit down to after work and listen to.
The quality was very good, for the year, very surprised.
If you play air guitar, want to have a beer and bang your head against the wall, give it a miss.

This is a great album of relaxing music that deserves to be better know. A mixtrue of original material that was better know in rock and recorded by FOCUS, together with some classical items. I bought this in the early 70s and again in 2011, now on CD. I have shared it with people who have never heard of Thijs Van Leer or FOCUS, some of whom were not born when this was originally released. They have been charmed by the gentle melodic delivery. A perfect record to chill out to at any time.

never used that adjective in this way before - it's one of my favourite discs in my collection now, haunting, moving, uplifting....just the best and I'll probably get more from this fine, accomplished musician and his friends.

A focused outing in the realm of classical meets film soundtrack here. An excellent lengthy listen that gets played more than once. Thijs Van Leer does not disappoint in these recordings - nice price too. Nice addition to 70s listening.

already had this on vinyl but wanted a cd version for convenience. Really relaxing music from the 1970's. Some may feel it is a bit dated but then so am I!
