Great introduction to the academic study of video games. Mäyrä does a great job with laying out the history of play that lead to digital games, in fact I really enjoyed all the historical elements. Felt a bit bogged down in detail in some parts but overall pretty concise and very informative. The guidelines for starting a game project are particularly indispensable.
