From the Back Cover
The first edition of The Internal Auditing Handbook received wide acclaim from readers and became established as one of the definitive publications on internal auditing. The second edition was released soon after to reflect the rapid progress of the internal audit profession. There have been a number of significant changes in the practice of internal auditing since publication of the second edition and this revised third edition reflects those changes. The third edition of The Internal Auditing Handbook retains all the detailed material that formed the basis of the second edition and has been updated to reflect the Institute of Internal Auditor s (IIA) International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing. Each chapter has a section on new developments to reflect changes that have occurred over the last few years. The key role of auditors in reviewing corporate governance and risk management is discussed in conjunction with the elevation of the status of the chief audit executive and heightened expectations from boards and audit committees. Another new feature is a series of multi–choice questions that have been developed and included at the end of each chapter.
This edition of The Internal Auditing Handbook will prove to be an indispensable reference for both new and experienced auditors, as well as business managers, members of audit committees, control and compliance teams, and all those who may have an interest in promoting corporate governance.

The book written by Spencer Pickett is well organised and presents both high-level and practical information to the readership. Frameworks and models are clearly explained and can easily be adapted for local implementation. Although primarily meant for internal auditors, this book will undoubtedly satisfy the curiosity of security and risk managers to the extent that it contains actionable ideas relating to their disciplines.

...I am of course pleased to find that this book quotes from 'Marketing internal audit' that I wrote for Internal Auditing and Business Risk, and quite properly credits me, but I'd just like to point out that I am, in fact, not a man as stated in the text...

This book is an invaluable reference to all those in the internal auditing field, especially for all those who are now managing an internal audit function. The internal audit has been evloving constantly over the past 20 years to become more and more suitable for the modern business, with increasing focus on business strategy, consultation, control system designs and implementaion etc. This book is a very timely addition to the profession, given the increasing awareness of the need for internal control as required by the new legislation (i.e. Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002). A wealth of information is packed inside with lots of flowcharts and graphical presentations, which make the readers all the way easy to understand and able to grasp the author's core concepts. There are many useful suggestions as well. Practicability has always been a subject of debate for an internal audit function and this book is no less to clear the myths about it. The relationship between internal and external auditors is also covered in depth. I am particularly interested in two of the chapters on behavioural aspects and marketing of auditing services. They show how the author assimilated his experiences with theory. The content on auditing over information technology including techniques and relationship with business operations demonstrated the book's comprehensiveness as ever as it could be. The subject is a niche and nobody wants to be checked and balanced. But you'd find advices on how to reconciliate the differences between the businesses and controls. This makes even more valuable to all those managers who are at the operational frontline realize how important to carry out their daily supervisions with sufficient controls. Overall, a highly recommended item.
