I am the teacher of a course using this book as our textbook. I recommend it. It's very much of a beginner's manuel, goes light on grammar and long on conversation - which is the right balance to my way of thinking. To use the listening exercises in class, you will need to purchase the teacher's handbook for the script. Despite the Cambridge University Press publication, this is an American book - the vocabulary and the situations are uniquely American.

The books are well produced and the activities well structured... Just make sure you choose the right level textbook for your students, and you won`t be disappointed! The introductory level text is perfectly suited to my students` ability, and the content builds well over the course of the book.

Seemingly, a random hash of ill thought out exercises, the linguistic focus of which is often unclear. The language is ungraded, creating headaches for learners and teachers.

My favourite thing about this book is the fact that the characters come from all over the world, presenting students with the added challenges of pronouncing non-English names of people and places, and trying to decipher numerous accents, all before they've even learnt how to properly introduce themselves.

Buy something else.

Completely without structure. It's a disaster in the classroom and some of the vocabulary is ridiculously difficult. Produced in a hurry without having been tested first. Avoid at all costs!
