As a Principal, I have been looking for the inspiration & an actual "How-To" for genuinely talking about & working to widely support & better incorporate creativity into our school - mainly across the 4 core subject areas. The authors expertly spell out Creativity, why it is so important, how it builds critical thinking, and most importantly they offer a WIDE array of specific examples, resources & tools for implementation. Most resources on "creativity" and school just talk about how it is important. Yeah, we know. Dan & Amy operationalize Creativity & teachers can use specific strategies the next day. Super humbled & grateful. I will be buying this for our entire faculty - it is THAT good.
5.0 out of 5 starsA book for inner city teachers and students too!

Inner city teachers are consumed with covering content because our students lack key skills and have so many gaps in their learning. But then we accidentally don't teach students to think, problem solve, be creative or to make anything. I think Intention: critical creativity in the classroom by Amy Burvall and Dan Ryder will be a great tool to help me teach my teachers to bring creativity into their classrooms and help to encourage my teachers to give themselves permission to be creative with our kids. I'm just loving everything about the book! Thanks Amy and Dan!

There is a fire in many of us to bring real and meaningful change to the work done in schools. This book flames the fire and inspires educators to bring creativity and critical thinking to their students' work. Dan and Amy have created a powerful resource that marries essential understandings of any lesson with creative whimsy while always keeping intent in mind. True learning is not measured by a standardized test. True learning is demonstrated by transferring knowledge to new contexts, remixing, and communicating ideas clearly. Intention and creativity can demonstrate understanding while engaging and empowering learners. This is a must have for any classroom and professional resource library.
As an educator, specialist, technologist; one essential take away from this book is not just content, the take away is to not be afraid of risk. This book challenges educators to explore, experiment, fail, and intentionally go to the next level. Take the content in the book and move forward. The authors of this book value the collaborative creativity from hacking and remixing the lessons. Challenge yourself to dive deep and take risks. Swim in the shallow end if you must but this book will inspire you to dive into the deep end.
5.0 out of 5 starsThis is a MUST HAVE for every classroom!

This book is a must for EVERY classroom teacher! Their explanation of the WHY is powerful and their activities deliver the goods! I have worked with several teachers who have done the activities with profound results from students. The level of engagement is deep and the student work is authentic. In my experience as an instructional coach and as a parent, kids today really struggle with thinking creatively and often don't want to lean into the hard work that creativity requires. But with the activities in this book, kids are challenged to put their creativity to work in ways that are fun, fresh and just whimsical enough to draw them in. And the best part of all, their detailed activities are easy-follow, implement and can be used in any subject area!
