The chip runs cool enough to only require passive cooling in a well-cooled case, such as the Antec Fusion, so perfect for a unit in the living room. Powerful enough to render HD without GPU assistance, though it can be a little glitchy at times despite only hitting 60% cpu (combined cores), so perhaps a bit light on L2 cache. Worthy alternative would be Processor - 1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 / 2.33 GHz ( 1333 MHz ) - LGA775 Socket - L2 4 MB - Box. Note that in both cases the die is 45nm, which means some older LGA 775 boards will either not support it at full speed or will require bios updates. Either cpu mated with a 730i chipset motherboard would be a perfect platform to build an HTPC around, providing sufficient processing power to view full HD (1080p or i) without breaking a sweat, from either disk, satellite HD or cable.
Also a fantastic overclocker, apparently. I have no experience of this, but the cool temps & 1066 FSB seem to be returning results in excess of 4GHz for the brave.

Fast + durable processor
Really recommend it!
Very fast, very reliable, and very cool. In the same case, same cooler (had to change retention mechanism obviously) same room, etc., it's around 6ºC cooler than the AMD X2 processor it replaced on idle, and 10ºC cooler on load. Not to mention a lot faster. The difference is bigger than what I would've expected.
