went from an i3 2100 to this, did not expect to notice a difference, but combined with an SSD the computer boots up so much faster, to my surprise i've noticed overall things do happen faster, considering I could not notice a difference between an i3 2100 and a i7 920 I was not expecting to see one with chip.
Anyways reasons i bought this chip, I wanted to dable in virtualisation, ideally would of bought an i7, but I feel like i saved £50, got the same chip, but no gpu, xeon's do come with a gpu if you need it, they end with a 5 opposed to a 0, 1245v2 usually being faster than a 3770 but cheaper and also includes the gpu!
Gaming performance increased by around 5-8fps in hitman absolution which surprised me as i only have a midrange 7770.
Just cause 2 fps doubled
both in 1080p!
Added those 2 games as thats all i've tried and not many people mention gaming with xeon.
For me the name xeon just sounds better than i7, its not an apple product, nor a bmw, nor a samsung tv, don't understand why so many people combine bmw gimmicks with apple's famous i, intel must of thought combing the 2 would b the ultimate sales pitch..anyways enough of that rant...
if anyone does get one and finds it running hotter than they expected, I undervolted my by 0.1v in the bios and it shaved 10 degrees of the max temps under stress testing, default voltage it was getting to 82degress, undervolted 71max, i've read around that many people have been able to get it down to 0.135v without stability issues (and furthert temp drops), if you think about it, this shaves off 20ww of load power usage, and lowers temps, same performance, its just a no brainer!
So all in all - gamers get 3570k. If you are sensible user and render/encode/excel/access a lot then this is my recommended CPU for you.
note: works with Z77 motherboards; might not be compatible with all though
