This is great - I had been looking for a book to teach myself more than the very basics of knitting and this book takes you by the hand and really explains all the ins and outs of everything, from casting on right up to some of the more complicated stitches. There's even a history of knitting which is fascinating. This is a wonderful book for everyone from novice knitters right up to more skilled readers who want advice or inspiration on more complicated techniques and ideas. The tone is friendly yet informative - and having seen author Ros Badger's beautiful designs for children (previously available mail order and now as patterns in her Little Badger Knitting Book), she clearly knows what she is talking about.

I feel that I have my nan back sitting beside me with this book! Unfortunately I never got pass the casting on, knit and pearl stages with her before she passed away many years ago, but with this book it has brought some great memories and as I am reading it it feels like my nan is back with me explaining how it all works. It is in plain english and the pictures are really clear and now that I am older (just a little) I have the patience and calmness needed to follow the stiches and patterns. I would recommend this book to anyone who either wants to start or brush up on their knitting, enjoy, its very therapeutic! Look out for the Croquet one of these books, that is another great book!

Sticking with the practical theme, this is by far the most comprehensive guide for the budding knitter on the market. After one quick read, I found myself online shopping for 5mm needles! Packed with knitting history, glossy, self-explanatory pictures, simple and advanced patterns to follow, and even a pattern for a groovy coat for the special puppy in your life, it's hard not to be motivated to emulate Gran and reach for the bag of scratchy acrylic wool and get cracking on dad's Christmas present!

My book arrived well wrapped, and earlier than I expected. The techniques and hints are described clearly, and there are lots of projects to choose from, in a range from basic to more adventurous skill levels. Can't wait to try them out!
