HASH(0x8f890ab0) out of 5 stars I love the way it starts, where it goes, and how it ends! 3 Jun. 2014
By Toni G - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
I love Lorelei and Holden. Lorelei is an older woman (is 35 considered older?) and Holden is a younger man. It was a sweet, romantic and sexy ride. Real people, real life situations and hot sex. Lorelei isn't a virgin, thank goodness, and neither is he. How refreshing to read about a young man, but definitely a man, who's not irreparably damaged or hiding a deep, dark secret. With his lovely English accent and playful ways he tries to coax Lorelei out of her rut. He sees all the ways she hides in plain sight. How can you not fall in love with a man who has a hunch you're suffering from PMS, and comes to the rescue with a bag of all the sweet things needed to make you feel better? What about a man who always makes sure you get what you need first? Me likey. Holden is young, hot and has a great butt! Lorelei is an independent woman. Their story is sweet, fun, sexy, surprising, frustrating, moving and more. I'm rooting for them. Did I mention he has an accent? This is a great summer read!

HASH(0x8f890cfc) out of 5 stars Racy and romantic but realistic. 2 Jun. 2014
By CLR - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
If you like your romance a little racy, but also still realistic - ie not full of ridiculous fantasies or characters that would never exist in real life - then Instant Connection is one for you. It's fast-paced, fun, modern and sexy. Great holiday read!

HASH(0x8f8910e0) out of 5 stars and was left with the impression that this is a good example of a book that could have benefitted from ... 24 Oct. 2014
By Mac - Published on Amazon.com

I read a sample of this book, and was left with the impression that this is a good example of a book that could have benefitted from an editor. A professional editor, not just the author or author's friends. It could have made the writing so much better. The author seems to have a good sense of story and character, so it's a shame.

I ended up buying it, wanting to give the author a chance after an intitial bad impression. As a professional editor and writer, I was curious. The bad writing continued; by bad I mean specifically: misspellings, grammatical errors, misused words (love "wonton" for "wanton"!), awkward sentence structure, awkward use of language in general. The overall plot structure is also messy - a publishing house would have cut out half the book; unnecessary passages which lead to slow pacing cause the reader to skim. We are treated to every turning on of the TV, every traipsing up and down stairs, every hour's activity of every day. An experienced writer knows better. Sexual passages were mechanical and cold too often, with the only dialogue cheap and juvenile: he put this here, she took hold of that. The author hasn't the finesse yet to know how to go beyond that to make a sex scene steamy, authentic and original too..

The most frustrating thing is that it could be a very good story, if the mistakes didn't cheapen it so much. The author has a good imagination and a great idea here. Unfortunately her immaturity (in the writing sense) and her own lack of life experience shows: in this fairy-tale world, lovers always come at the same time; when people take time off work at the spur of the moment, there isn't a problem (having worked in the veterinary world, I had to laugh!); people straight out of vet school have no residency period; when you make an international flight there is no wait in customs, you just get off a plane - "go through passport check" and jump in a cab; gay men are stereotypical caricatures. This author evidently considers 36 a very old age for a woman - I laughed out loud at the comment about vaginal dryness being related to age - at 36?? Please! - the story's focus on age difference would have rung more true if the difference was 15 or 20 years. But a mere 10 seems a bit of an exaggeration. I don't know many people in the real world who would make a big deal about a man 26 and a woman 36.

There is a problem with research as a whole. For example, a dog with a tennis ball in his digestive tract is a life-threatening emergency, but our vet heroine laughs and shrugs it off jokingly and takes her time. Details about cancer treatment lacked authenticity: for example nowadays most everyone doesn't experience the nausea of the past, due to drug therapy before and during treatments. Veterinarians are not wealthy, as is our heroine: in reality, they have vet school loans to pay off and live modestly, unless they are specialists, which requires years of training. The author didn't seem to know that a vet degree is a 7-8 year endeavor, plus a year or two residency. (For a specialist, add a few years more...) Vets work long hard hours, but this one has a heck of a lot of leisure time.

Characterization is an issue. Both main characters speak the same way, think the same way. There is no depth. I thought if someone said "Morning sunshine" once more I was going to burn the book. They both think, speak and behave like teens or college kids, despite the fact they are older. There is a lot of teasing and mindless banter, not adult conversations of substance. It's a little tough to take these two seriously; we are told they love each other, but throughout, it feels like teen puppy love, not mature love. The heroine somehow doesn't have the basic maturity to break up in a compassionate manner, but like a fourteen year old simply ignores his frantic calls for weeks. Mind boggling behavior in a thirty-something professional woman. I stopped respecting her completely at that point.

I don't mean to harp.. but again, all of these issues would have been resolved with hiring a good editor. It's frustrating to see a potentially good book, and an imaginative intelligent writer, but have a book that is frustratingly amateurish. If you don't care about quality writing, it's a good enough storyline. If you read a book for overall creative experience, including nice language, skip it - it will have you tearing your hair out. I hope for this writer's sake she hires someone in the future who can correct the mistakes and at the same time coach her to turn out a higher-quality content - she obviously does not lack the heart or potential to do better.

HASH(0x8f890fa8) out of 5 stars Finally a story for my nerdy side 1 Jun. 2014
By NLM - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I love to read, but I've rarely found stories which portray women with the same hobbies and interests as I have. It was fun having so much in common with the main characters. I mean, who doesn't love The Waling Dead? Okay, maybe not everyone, but the sci fi references were great, coupled with the use of technology. This is a modern love story with all the obstacles that go along with it. A little racy, so hold on. I can't wait to see where Lorelei and Holden might end up next.
HASH(0x8f8914ac) out of 5 stars Love This One 8 Sept. 2014
By DonnaPhills59pa/ Spreading The Word with Denise& Donna - Published on Amazon.com

This book does contain sexual scenes and some sex talk so if you don't like this in your books this isn't for you. The story is great. Lorelei Prince is a very organized vet. She loves her career and her life except at thirty six she is very lonely. Holden Mckaffery is twenty five and her test new video games and electronics. They both have a love of everything English. Holden was born there and moved to the U S when he was eight and Lorelei went to boarding school there. Now they both live in L A. They both travel to work on the Bart , which is the transportation system. One day while Lorelei is running for the train she starts to fall into the tracks as the train is coming. She is stopped by a pair of very strong arms. Holden has saved her from near death. She thanks him and they talk for a few minutes. She finds him very handsome with his blonde hair and green eyes. He finds her attractive with her auburn hair and blue eyes. They both head onto their jobs and Holden takes a selfie of them to mark his saving her life. He tells her its on instagram under snappy man. When she gets to work she puts in his name to check it out. They are both attracted to the other even though she knows he is very young. That doesn't bother Holden and he can't get her out of his mind. Finally through the marvel of texting he gets her to meet him for a drink. She can't believe how much they have in common and neither can Holden. They start to develop a relationship . They like the same movies, music, and of course everything English. As this story evolves they have a lot of ups and downs. Then tragedy breaks them up and then Holden starts a campaign to try and win her back. He knows she is for him. This story has humor, sadness, and love. You will love it so take the time to read it.
