This is an excellent introduction to technical writing which should serve as a reference for quite some time into a writer's career. From my contacts with recruiters and recruiting agents, the advice generalises well to the UK; most employers seem to adopt US practices. The book covers a very wide range of issues and is well indexed; it also builds up in complexity, allowing the reader to develop as he or she progresses through the book.

The author pulls no punches, however. There is plenty to learn and to do subsequent to reading the book. In my opinion, a quick online read about XML (HTML first if you don't know it) and DITA might be sensible even before reading it.

As the book goes on, you will notice some typographic errors. While the author did a good job in updating this book, she didn't have time to use a proofreader. However, this is such a useful book that I did not think it worth changing the star rating.
