I enjoyed reading this although there wasn't a lot that was new in it,certain parts made one wonder "how can the author possibly know that"such as the Queens opinions on subjects she's unlikely to express, but as I've said enjoyable

The book arrived in as new condition, you would not know it was published 20 years ago. Interesting read, but you have to remember it is an old book and the facts are out of date.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dated, but interesting 9 July 2013
By John E. K. Clay - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
There are two kinds of authors about the British Royal Family: those like Brian Houey, who are always looking to suck up, preserve their access, and paint the royals in the best possible light, and those like Lady Colin Campbell, who could care less about currying favor and are more willing to be frank. Andrew Morton is definitely of the latter sort, and it shows even in this very early work.
Inside Buckingham Palace is a bit dated, having been published in 1991, before the collapse of the Waleses, Yorks' and Phillips' marriages, but since life in Buckingham Palace is so hide bound, most of its content is still no doubt accurate. The focus is not so much on personalities as on procedures and practicalities: how things are done.
I enjoyed seeing the layout of their private apartments, and could appreciate why they prefer their other homes! They live on a corridor with very little privacy. It was also interesting to read about the experience of being invited to the palace through the eyes of a guest. The Queen is a professional at 'small talk' and feigning interest in the broadest possible array of topics, but when she starts to tangle with an elderly school teacher about whether creativity can be taught, (Her Majesty arguing the negative), we get to see the limitations of her thinking and her curiosity. I thouight that passage alone was worth the price of the book.
Hmmm, I guess that is a window into her personality after all...

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthwhile read 21 Jun. 2012
By Michelle - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I came across the knowledge of this book through a friend and she convinced me to buy it. Very glad that I did because if your nosy like me and want to know what it's like inside your neighbours house than this is a good read. Love the pictures that have been included and the stories that are told from upstairs to downstairs gave me a right royal insight to the goings on.
I enjoyed it so much that it deserves a 5.

A rather old book with Dianna still in the picture, Of course I loved her. It was mostly interesting to be able to see the inside of the palace but I always felt I wanted more.
