works just like you would expect. The metal cover for the gas cartridge connector has fairly rough threads and feels a bit unpleasant as you screw it on, but that will probably smooth out with use. Just fill it up with water screw the top on and charge it. Put it in the fridge. Chilled sparkly soda. I don't know what you get for buying a more expensive one.
Only worked reasonably well for the first go. It has consistently produced flat water ever since then. This was an awful waste of money... I have no idea why there are so many good reviews for this product.
I remember by father having one of these and being fascinated as a young child, watching him squirt this into a tumbler. I since discovered he was adding soda to his whisky! I love this siphon. I decided to give up alcohol for lent so purchased this. I guess it's not cheap but it keeps longer than opened plastic soda bottles and far better for the environment. I have got through 15 capsules which I bought separately and all the other reviewers are so helpful so my thanks to them too.
People had written reviews about this syphon complicated to set up so I was nervous about doing it. Actually following the instructions on the box are quite straight forward. I think some of the complications come from there being both a silver and a plastic charger holder, and no indication why there are two. There is also a plastic cover for the charger port. Also the online PDF suggests inserting the plastic 'fork' when I think it means 'tube'. Our grandparents used syphons like these without any headaches so I suggest you follow you instincts when getting going. We like the taste of the CO2 in the water- fresh and sweet. Fits nicely in fridge door. I'm hoping this is the end of bringing back bottles of fizzy water from the supermarket - and a great reduction is my use of plasticbottles.
Good product, does what it promises as long as you follow the instructions, although these are not immediately clear, perhaps it's a translation problem. You do need a 1-litre measure in order to fill the siphon correctly. I use my water filter jug, which sits in the fridge door next to the siphon. The soda water tastes a lot better than the plain tap water in my area, and adds a pleasant fizz to juice drinks, cordials etc. Refilling and recharging the siphon is a bit time-consuming, but probably worth it to avoid buying numerous plasticbottles of sparkling water.
Nicely made but odd to use, instructions say fill to four fifths but impossible to judge the level due to the construction, so some method of measuring needs to be worked out by the user to get this level right. Capacity is modest which makes it expensive (for gas cartridges) compared to plasticbottles which it was my aim to replace for environmental and convenience reasons.
I really like this and now I have got used to using it works perfectly. Gives a nice soft fizz rather than the over fizzed water you can buy in bottles and is much better on the tummy. Mustn't over fill the cylinder so only can do 3/4 full otherwise it dribbles out when the release the gas. Has drastically cut down on my plastic waste which was the main reason for getting this which is a massive plus too.
Very prompt delivery of a stylish and useful product. I bought this to reduce the number of plasticbottles used in my home. One thing to be aware of is that the gas takes a long time to be absorbed by the water so you need to plan ahead.
Top quality. Brushed chrome/steel with a good solid feel. We've been using it for a month now to replace both plasticbottled fizzy water ( eco friendly saving on wasteful plastic) and also to replace our soda stream ( way too much effort to just get a different plasticbottle full of fizzy water) . This syphon comes with both a solid metal gas bulb holder and a black plastic one. The syphon head, lever, syphon tube and screw thread all fit perfectly and securely. I use a pint glass for my drinks and this syphon fills two pint glasses per gas bulb. My suggestion is, don't buy the cheapest gas bulbs on Amazon...they provide enough gas compression to dispense the water, but not enough to carbonate it. Pay the extra and get the better quality bulbs made by Sparklet.
