Product Description

Review

I found this fresh approach to drawing NLP material together appealing. It seems current, practical and full of stuff in usable `chunk sizes' that I - and I would think anyone with some existing knowledge of NLP - can take away and put into practice. I am left wondering, given the nature of the fast-developing NLP field, what hasn't been included in this book. Hopefully there will be more volumes to follow. Readable, educational, practical - and relevant to challenging times. --Lynne Cooper, author The Five Minute Coach and trainer

This is a beautifully produced book, easy to read and it has a great variety of material in it. As an NLP practitioner and trainer I will be using this as a resource in the future. I would recommend this book to any NLP practitioner or any therapists interested in extending their skills. --Dr Helena Schlindwein Ph.D. FNCP INLPTA, Fidelity The Journal of the National Council of Psychotherapists Spring, 2012

My lasting impression is that, any legitimate reason to remain ignorant has been removed once we remind ourselves and give thanks for our God given minds. Divinely equipped to grow and therefore create solutions. Talk never cooks the dinner. So if you do read the text, make it work for you, by deciding for yourself how you can test and retest the models for yourself. I thank Hall and Charvet-Rose for passing on this wisdom of how the mind works to resolve challenges. Recommendation: Essential for NLPers reading. This is for teachers, as well as students. --Deborah Rose, Hypnotherapist

Unusual in that it brings together an eclectic mix of models, tools, applications and even descriptions of NLP communities, this book is a surprisingly good read as well as being a useful reference. The models and applications are presented in a very accessible way, with clear descriptions, case studies and examples. The editors seem to have considered very carefully what constitutes `innovations' rather than adaptations of Classic NLP models, which means that there's likely to be something(s) new and useful for everyone. Although I have come across some of the material previously in other forms, I found a lot of the content new, and there are some interesting new angles on concepts I am familiar with such as Symbolic Modelling and the LAB Profile.

HASH(0x9b7d945c) out of 5 stars Not your typical NLP book, Thank the Heavens! 28 May 2014

These folks get it; what is most needed for NLP as a field (in my opinion) is to foster collaboration amongst one another, to develop new approaches/applications, frameworks/models, and especially to gain more credibility as a whole so other traditional/conventional fields can begin to consider the usefulness of these approaches from within the conventional mindset, rather than writing them off wholesale as pseudo-scientific.

NLP isn't the outrageous claims that are frequently marketed by enterprising individuals, who often lack solid understandings of what nlp is to begin with ... and solid understandings of what constitute 'ethics' (...but that's a story for another time.) For those who have experience with reputable and skillful 'NLPers', and experience themselves with using the distinctions and models of nlp to make pragmatic differences and changes, this stuff is great, especially in the sense of offering specific workable approaches. As I see it, with humility and persistence these ideas offer the real possibilities of achieving what others seem to have sworn off as impossible - and not only make the impossible possible but show how to begin to do so in relatively easy, fun, and creative ways.

Providing examples of NLP-in-action, Innovations in NLP for Challenging Times makes the connections between the source materials and how they can be applied and developed further, day to day to meet the difficulties we encounter in our ever increasingly complex world. There are stories, illustrations, diagrams, and each presented in a clearly organized, well considered manner addressing a variety of domains: wealth acquisition, treating addiction, business contexts, improving social relating-skills, etc.

This is a book that inspires - for instance the meta-states chapter helped me to better clarify that whenever a so-called negative state, thoughts or emotions, arises - that I can simply add to it another 'state' that evolves my 'negative' state into a useful state, all the while respecting and appreciating, rather than abhorring, the original state. In other words, it doesn't help much to beat ourselves up for whatever we may feel (and making things worse), but by feeling it and going into that feeling with a consideration of what may best fit us, we can come out on the other side with much more beneficial results. And in even more 'other words', that is called 'having control' - and it helps to spell out what that is, and how to do it. The more people can feel 'in control' the more they can make conscious decisions that benefit themselves and others. By thinking in creative ways, we can be better prepared to help make an impact on this world, rather than just talking or thinking about making an impact. There is much more I could say, but I'll leave it to the interested to find out for themselves. Highly recommended!
