I have read many books on Witchcraft. And no matter what i read there was always something wrong with them. Things that downright put me off the subject and practice. Dont get me wrong, the books i read had their upsides. But they just didnt make me want to continue my path into the practice. I could list the reasons or give titles, but i dont want to bash other books. What will work for one person wont for another.

This book caught my interest. After i had begun reading it. Before i had stayed away from it because of its cover (yes i judged a book by its cover. I feel shame) Its title and front always seemed a little over the top.

But i got to a point where i really did not know where to search next, for a book that i may like. And this one sort of nudged at the edge of my mind. So i went to my local New Age/Pagan store and bought the "Outer Temple of Witchcraft". Yes you read right. Outer Temple. I had got the wrong book. Which leads me to one warning on these books. The titles are not very clear on which one is the first in the series. even the blurb did not mention it. Make sure you get the right one.

I ordered this book and read its first few chapters and including the introduction etc... And i was already enjoying myself. There is something about the authors writing style that is easy going, and never makes you feel like you are being ordered around. Unlike other books i had read. That, and the fact that for once, the intitiation ritual was not near the front of the book. This made you feel at ease. Because it did not feel like you are being pushed into everything NOW. There was a small thing at the front which was a sort of rituaal for you to declare your intent. But it was not really binding.

This is an excellent foundation course which really lays down the bedrock for a lifetime of further study.

Although the accompanying CDs are not sold through amazon uk - and they are essential to get the best out of the course - they are easily available through amazon.com (mine took just 5 days to arrive) and they are not actually needed until lesson 7, and there are four introductory chapters to work through before the lessons even begin. The course takes a year and a day to complete so the last thing to do is to go rushing headlong at it.

If you're prepared to study long and hard, to really commit yourself and understand that the road will often be difficult and painful, then this book is a good place to start your journey.

If all you're interested in is pretence and posing then there are more than enough fluffy white lighters out there to go play with until the next latest craze grabs the attention.

I am still in my year and a day training (2 months to go) as a wiccan/witch and found I had had enough of beginners wiccan books. I went to Glastonbury and bought this book in a local shop as recommended by the witch owner and cant praise it enough. I also bought the CD's at the same time and they do really need to be read/listened to together. The author has a great understanding and knowledge of witchcraft and explains it very well. As I said, Im still studying but can recommend this to anyone who has come through the beginner stage, but perhaps isnt quite ready for the advanced. I will certainly buy more of his books.

Anyone who wishes to follow the Wiccan Path, or who simply wants todevelop meditation or psychic skills will find this book an invaluabletool. This book offers more than the average basic text on wicca althoughit does not cover casting circles, rituals and magickal tools. lessonsare related to daily living, giving extra value to the subjects withinregardless of wether you wish to become a witch or just live you life as amore spritually aware person. Added to this Penczak writes in asensetive, easy style backing up his teaching with personal reflectionsand encouraging the same in the reader.
The inner Temple of Witchcraft is designed to be the first in a series ofwiccan books, and as such, it lays a solid foundation on which to developpsychic and magickal skills. Those wishing to follow the wiccan path ordevelop psychically are likely to find this book a core text.
Most 'how to' books on witchcraft start with a brief history, but thefirst four chapters are devoted not only to this but to explaining thedifferent schools of wicca and other magickal traditions in a much moreinteresting way than usual.
The design of the book then continues as a year and a day "quest". Thereader is invited to carry out an intention ritual at this stage andembark on a journey, not only of magickal learning but alsoself-discovery.
The next thirteen chapters are lessons with theory augmented by practicalexercises, assignments and tips at the end of each.
The most important skill. appearing early in the book, is meditation. Thereader is then taught to develop this ability and use it to explore andreflect on personal meanings of the lessons. For example, rather thanjust being told what certain colours 'mean' the reader is first asked tomeditate on how colours affect them.
