I really liked Dr Lewis' approach to explaining infertility - it was gentle, and explained about the theories behind Chinese medicine, without being overwhelming, and the solutions were practical and fairly inexpensive. I fitted into the category 'Cold Uterus'.
I started trying to put the recommendations in the book into practice, and started having regular treatments from a Chinese doctor (accupuncture and herbs). The doctor confirmed that I was suffering from cold uterus. I think that I would have been much more skeptical about the Chinese treatment had I not read the book. My husband had been diagnosed with low sperm motility, so he started taking the supplements recommended in the book. I drastically reduced my alcohol consumption to under 5 units per week and he cut down a lot and quit smoking socially. During this time we were referred for ICSI treatment.
Three months after reading the book and putting these lifestyle changes into practice I missed my period, and am delighted to say that I'm pregnant. I can't say which factor made the difference, but I feel strongly that the recommendations in the book helped us to conceive. It may be psychosomatic, it might be that we were more relaxed after being referred for IVF, it might just be a matter of luck. However, I think that for any couple who are trying to conceive and would prefer not to have assisted conception, it is well worth reading this book and trying to put some of the recommendations into place. After all, buying the book is much cheaper than IVF, and even if you don't believe in Chinese medicine, it's worth reading it and trying some of the recommendations.
And good luck to all those couples trying for a baby reading this page.
