Ask a dozen Death fans to name their favourite album by Chuck Schuldiner's crew and you will probably get at least five different answers, such is the quality of the band's recorded work. But 'Individual Thought Patterns' is undeniably one of their very best, containing classic songs such as 'Overactive Imagination', 'Trapped in a Corner' and 'The Philosopher' (despite the video for the latter being given a kicking by Beavis and Butthead!).
This reissue comes in a jewel case with a nice o-card featuring a shiny, embossed Death logo. Relapse Records have done a marvellous job remastering the album which sounds clearer and louder than the original version. The real selling point, however, is the bonus disc that contains a 10-track live show recorded in Germany in 1993. The set list features songs from 'Scream Bloody Gore', 'Leprosy', 'Spiritual Healing', 'Human' and ITP. The band are in great form and the sound quality of the recording is very good. You also get two bonus tracks (Studio outtakes of the title track and 'The Exorcist').
If you don't own any of Death's albums, this is actually a very good place to start as you not only get one of the finest death metal albums ever, but also a 'best of' the band's early material in the form of the live disc. Even if you have an older version of ITP, this reissue is still worth purchasing for the bonus content. Highly recommended.
