Catherine has ridden a bicycle almost every day since she learned to ride at 7, with her daddy running along behind the fairy cycle holding saddle in the cul-de-sac in Devon, where she grew up. When each of her own children arrived she added another seat, until she had a tandem with a child seat on the carrier at the back and a cross bar seat for the baby in front of her oldest child who peddled on the back set of pedals. There’s a photo of that somewhere! Once her children were teenagers she decided to learn to ride a motorbike. After 3 weeks she was struck by a car. This is the story of that incident when she almost died, and the following challenging and wonderful events that lead to her survival and recovery. She met her current husband while she was recovering. He helped her to strengthen her leg and to learn to ride a 600cc bike so she could take her test and then confidently ride knowing, that if necessary, she could get away from incompetent drivers.

An interesting account of how something out of the blue (an accident in this case) can change your life forever. I enjoyed the last part the best, which included the authors reflections on what had happened since.

This short book is an inspirational account of how the author, Catherine Holland, determined to survive, recover and thrive in the aftermath of a horrific road traffic accident. It describes how she made a conscious decision to live, and through effective breathing, healthy diet (50% raw) and the love and assistance of family and friends went on to make a remarkable recovery. Self-responsibility is a major theme throughout her story as Catherine directs the course of her return to health, gently inviting the reader to consider their own attitudes to health, nutrition and medicine.
