I really liked how different Lucy and Drake were. I haven't read characters like them before. Lucy is shy and reserved. She keeps to herself and only has one friend, Mason. Drake is the guy dreams are made of. He is incredibly intelligent, sexy, a family man, has a killer body and heart of gold. When these two meet it was as if the world stopped and was thrown back on its axis. There was something about the other that just drew them in. I think my favorite thing about them was that they were nerds and embraced it fully. If it wasn't reading an actual newspaper it was the love for history, learning and teaching. At their core was someone who wanted to help shape and better the lives of those around them. For Lucy it was through her teaching. For Drake it was through policy change with his seat in the Senate. I loved the relationship between Drake and Lucy. It was light and easy and they both got to be themselves. They were able to relax, let their guard down and just be.
But with Drake being in the public eye and his every move scrutinized they have to be very careful. This is the one thing that makes Lucy nervous because she has a past that she ran from that could come back to bite him. When what all happened was revealed, my heart broke for Lucy. And then I got angry that it happened to her. While Drake's reaction was to be expected, Lucy's wasn't. I didn't think she would handle things the way she did. But when the events of her troubled past come to light, it is Drake and the entire Prescott family to the rescue. Drake is willing to do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves. His actions made me fall for him even more than I already had. More so, however, it was how Lucy stepped up that me smiling from ear to ear. This woman is spectacular. Its no wonder Drake was so in love with her.
I LOVED the Prescott clan. Everyone from the baby sister, Gretchen to the budding pro athlete, Dane played some sort of role in the development of Lucy and Drake's relationship. And I can't forget Mason, Lucy's best friend. We all need someone like him in our lives. Someone who loves you unconditionally and isn't afraid to tell you when they think you're making a mistake. Someone who will be there for you at the drop of a hat, even when they think you're wrong. Joanne Schwehm delivered BIG time with Incumbent. Not only was it a great story of overcoming loss, starting over and finding yourself and love; but it was a great set up for what is sure to be an amazing series.
The story had me reeled in so quickly. Read this book twice back to back because I couldn't get enough!
Life isn't always as it seems. Be careful when you are looking in, you only see the partial truth. There is always more to the story, you just have to open your eyes, ears and heart.
I hope you enjoy this ride with Drake and Lucy like I did!
The rest of the Prescott's will be coming soon and I can't wait for each and every one of them!
Joanne has done it again! Amazing!
Lucy is a school teacher and Drake happens to just stroll in her life when she least expects it. He come in for an interview with her class and they thought that would be the end of their meeting, but it would seem that fate has other plans. This book has everything I look for in a story and so much more. I laughed, cried and I am sure I probably stopped breathing a time or two.
Will Drake and Lucy be able to over come their past and make a future or does fate have other plans? You MUST read this book to find out, I can promise you won't be disappointed
Incumbent is a tale of two individuals who are brought together by a mere chance. Once they set eyes on one another, everything they knew begins to change.
Drake is a U.S. Senator. A man with a vision to change so much for the better of the people. His caring ways and love for his family, his country and those closest to him shine through in everything he does.
Lucy is a school teacher. A woman who wants to give back and educate the youth to create brighter futures. Her giving heart is admired by those around her, yet she has a bit of a painful secret she'd rather not share with just anyone...for fear of the consequences.
These two are simply breathtaking. I loved their story, their struggles and the ways in which this author drew me to their emotions. Not only were the main characters well developed, every character involved in this story made me want to know more. I can't wait to read more of the Prescott Series.
I really enjoyed this book. It was perfect for a political junkie and a romance book junkie, such as myself. The political aspect of it was small compared to what I thought it would be, although it does come through strong in the end.
I loved Lucy and Drake. When Lucy’s secret was outed, I cried for her. What she went through all alone was horrible, she eventually had her best friend, Mason to confide in, but Drake is who took the cake and really helped her move on with her life. We have to wait a majority of the book to discover what exactly her secret is, but the guessing game was half the fun for me. I felt so much from this book, anxiety, fear, sadness, laughter and eventually, happiness. I recommend this for someone looking for something more than a light read, but not a dark one.
