"Surfing and photography go hand-in-hand. The act of riding waves is an art form and so is photography; when you put them together you end up with something beautiful." This quote is lifted from one of the pages of Incredible Waves and it is a sentiment that can fairly be applied to the book as a whole.
It's a publication that will appeal to the most aesthetically demanding but it has a much wider audience as well. It'll reinvigorate any surfer jaded by blown-out rubbish at his home break with images of fantasy line-ups in exotic locales guaranteed to make feet itch worse than a raging case of Athlete's foot. Meanwhile, adrenaline junkies going cold turkey during a British winter will find their fix with shots of mutant Teahupoo and heaving Shipstern's while for those who need substance with style there's an interview section with some of the contributing snappers as well as basic guidance on how to get started taking surf photos.
The book will make an ideal Xmas pressie for a surfer in need of stoke. It'll also inspire the restless souls amongst us to boldy go and find the hidden point break that will generate a lifetime's memories.
