Product description

Review

"Working with English as a global language takes tact, understanding and finesse, which is why Talbot and Bhattacharjee's text is such a useful tool in learning to express yourself in any culture. As you would expect from a text on clear and effective communication, this book manages to be very readable while simultaneously proving hugely instructive for both the non-native speaker wanting to get to grips with global business language, and the native speaker who just needs to brush up on technique." (Elite Business Magazine)

"The spectre of 'Global' - a hybrid English for an international audience - has loomed large of the business world for years. Though this book sounds initially like a user's guide to the much maligned genre, it's actually based around clear communication in emails and presentations. There's common sense here to be found in abundance." (People Management magazine)

"A useful guide for international business people as they advise how to sharpen one's language skills across borders... With tips focused on social media, grammar, and speaking well across borders, 'Improve Your Global Business English' is strongly recommended for business and language collections." (The Midwest Book Review, The Library Bookwatch)

Format: Paperback
This book is a must read if you want to write effective messages in order to achieve professional goals.

It doesn't matter whether you were raised in an English speaking country or not, if you want your messages to be perceived correctly, retain customers or win new ones then you must read this book.
Many real life examples, easy techniques for formal and social media success and practical exercises make this book valuable.

The three Ss and the three Cs discussed are really important to succeed in today's competitive world.

The book has many powerful suggestions like:
"You have the power to choose the words you write, so choose the right ones. And yes, this applies to the workplace too. Make a difference!"

"Don't just focus on seeing things from your own perspective. It can give you blind spots."

"Think before you write, while you write- and definitely after you have written."

One of this book's great strengths is that it is co-written by English and Indian authors, both of whom appear to have extensive experience of working in different countries and cultures. Their combined understanding of what can go wrong has enabled them to provide an excellent guide to the perils and pitfalls of communication, and hence to create an awareness in the reader of what to avoid and how best to ensure that the message received/perceived is the same as the message sent.

This excellent guide on tailoring the message to the relevant audience is built on a solid foundation of extensive guidance on how to construct effective messages using international English.

The content is further enhanced by the inclusion of a number of very useful up-to-the-minute chapters covering social media and how best to use them.

Let's face it, reputations can take years to build and yet they can be destroyed in an instant by an email or ill-considered tweet. The only way to address this challenge is to be systematic and professional in all our written outputs and Fiona's latest work sets the standard for everyone. And everyone includes the Brits, whose natural advantage in learning Mother Tongue English often leads to complacency.
Any successful business entrepreneur knows that complacency is the enemy of competitiveness; miss out on this book at your own peril! Fiona supports you every step along the way no matter where you are in the world.
I've worked in international business for 30 years and it's the first book I've come across that's truly comprehensive yet succinct.
