Nicely printed book but for someone like me who knows quite a bit about ancient Egypt it does not have much new to offer. Will be nice to show grandchildren when they visit and might get them interested.

Amazon keeps asking me to review my own book so I have to let you know I'm biased - it's a great book with over 400 photos and illustrations most of which I did myself. Both Publisher's Weekly and KMT (A Modern Journal of Ancient Egypt) gave it the thumbs up.

"Millmore's thorough primer is chockablock with gorgeous illustrations, and the book offers as good a starting point as any for an introduction to life in ancient Egypt" Publisher's Weekly.

I'll give myself a pat on the back and five stars and hope Amazon stops sending me automated emails asking to review my own book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for the non-specialist general reader 8 July 2007
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
In "Imagining Egypt: A Living Portrait Of The Time Of The Pharaohs", artist and author Mark Millmore provides the reader with a beautifully illustrated historical survey and account of the society, customs, rituals, beliefs, architecture, government, monuments, and daily life of ancient Egypt. Of special interest is Millmore's pairing of color photographs of sites and structures as they appear today along side beautifully executed computer recreations of how those same sites and structures appeared in their own time and place. Readers will learn how hieroglyphs how decoded, how the pyramids were built, and the religious beliefs and theologies that made Egypt so distinctive among the nations and empires of antiquity. Superbly organized and presented, "Imagining Egypt" is ideal for the non-specialist general reader and would make a popular addition to school and community library World History and Ancient History collections.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as Advertised 19 May 2007
By J. L. Riccardi - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is really a children's book and not suitable for anyone who is looking for genuine reconstructions of Ancient Egyptian buildings. The pictures are pretty enough, but the information is, unfortunately, minimal. For those interested in serious archaeological treatment, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Imagining Egypt review 19 July 2007
By E. Brothers - Published on Amazon.com

This is a great book whether you're a new or confirmed Egyptophile. The artwork is fabulous, especially the recreations of ancient sites. The information is clear without being condescending; a good read for anyone interested.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book! 25 Feb. 2014

This is one of the most beautifully illustrated books I've ever seen...if I didn't treasure it so much I'd remove all of the photos to have them framed but of course would NEVER do so. I also appreciated the text and information on the temples etc. A wonderful book to give as a gift to someone who has an interest in ancient Egypt!
5.0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as a time machine for visiting ancient Egypt 6 Oct. 2015

Very evocative of the time, I think, but grounded on good research. Beautifully illustrated with a handy "Hieroglyphs 101" section. Good introduction to ancient Egypt and a fun read even for those with deeper knowledge of this time and culture.
