I use Peter Reynold's books a lot with children of all primary school ages. They are great for stimulating discussion and for prompting creative and imaginative thinking. Personally though, I was a little disappointed in this one which is not as clear nor as enjoyable for children as Ish or The Dot. This one is a bit too philosophical for me.

Format: Hardcover
I've read a number of Peter H. Reynolds' books over the last ten years or so. Every time I read a new one I am surprised by his insight, and the powerful messages he shows children. With his characteristic style, simple drawings with lots of white space, he communicates a great message. This story moved me and I love sharing it with my children and friends of our family. Reynolds has a gift for communicating to children, for instilling hope, courage and for inspiring them. I give this book the highest recommendation I can.

HASH(0x8ea02bac) out of 5 stars Every kid should read this book 19 Aug. 2011
By Terry Shay - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Peter H. Reynolds has a distinct voice as an author and it speaks to the soul of the reader. This tender book is bound to be a classic as it speaks to the heart of children (and adults). "I'm Here" carries the important message that none of us are alone. Originally inspired by a family impacted by autism, this speaks to that audience, however, it is so much more. Every kid struggles with fitting in at one time or another, this books points its positive message in that direction. What better message is there? If I had the money, I would buy one for every single school library in the world.

HASH(0x8ea02c00) out of 5 stars An essential for every children's book collection 12 Sept. 2011
By M. Bush - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Anyone who has worked in an elementary school knows there is at least one child in every grade level who spends recess alone on the playground. Not every child likes sports, not every child likes to run and shout at recess. Peter H. Reynolds' book "I'm Here" is a gentle, poignant story that celebrates children who march to the beat of their own drum, encouraging empathy, understanding and inclusion. With simple, whimsical illustrations that perfectly complement his eloquent use of words, Peter Reynolds has once again created a book that will touch the hearts of children and adults alike. I highly recommend "I'm Here" as an essential addition to every school, community and home library!

HASH(0x8eb33cf0) out of 5 stars More than it seems 27 Aug. 2011
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I'm Here by Peter Reynolds is a book I am sure to be reading the first week of class with my third-graders. Although it tells the story of autism, it tells so much more. The planned discussion of finding someone who may be by themselves, or left out is something all teachers should speak about, no matter what the age. I would encourage teachers to use this as a writing response activity in the upper grades and discussion in both upper and lower. Parents can also use this book to open dialogue between their themselves and their child if they feel like their child may be "left out". We have a strong anti-bullying curriculum here in NJ this year that will be put into place, and I can see this being part of the curriculum.
Peter Reynolds' books are excellent and have a very special place on my teacher bookshelf. I highly recommend this book for all ages.

HASH(0x8ea02e88) out of 5 stars Simply a MUST HAVE for every classroom, library, home, and child! 27 Aug. 2011
By Elaine M. Smith - Published on Amazon.com

A beautiful book with a simple, but oh so powerful, message. A message that will resonate with readers young and old. Through his gorgeous illustrations and eloquent words, Peter pulls the reader in to understand what it might feel like to be on the outside looking in. This is the perfect book to springboard discussions around acceptance and empathy. All children should feel connected and a part of our wonderful world. "I'm Here" shows how through just one person that can be possible. It should be read on the first day of school and reread many times over. Can't recommend it highly enough!!

HASH(0x8ea02e28) out of 5 stars I'm Here 20 Sept. 2011
By Sheri S. Dollin, M.Ed. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Everyone can relate to "I'm Here" in one way or another. I begin my FRIEND Program trainings with "I'm Here" because it clearly illustrates social challenges in context to autism spectrum disorders, bullying, and so on. "I'm Here" provides inspiration to address behavior by children or adults towards anyone that is alone or different- especially on a playground, in a school cafeteria or extracurricular activities. You have elevated the issue of being different by telling this lovely story. I am hopeful readers will become mindful thinkers (one page at a time) about other's differences. For this, I extend my deepest thanks.
