Illicit Kisses by Kim Bailey is a novella from her ‘Here & Now’ series, and is a prelude to Dylan’s book, which will be available later in the series. Dylan was first introduced in Complex Kisses (book 1 of the series; this is book 1.5) but having not read the first book, I was able to read Illicit Kisses without having formed any opinions of Dylan already.
I loved this novella from the get go and couldn't put it down. I read it all in one go and there was so much packed into it. It didn't feel like a novella at all and I can't wait to read more about Dylan once his book is available. I'd also like to read Complex Kisses to see how Dylan is viewed by Jamie and Eric who both come across as a little selfish and inconsiderate when it comes to Dylan in this novella. I really felt for Dylan in this novella and was happy to read about how he realised a few things and started to think about himself after all this time. Personally, I don't think Dylan’s a bad guy and after having worked so hard to change and prove himself, he deserves a break and to find someone who can love him for him.
I feel Illicit Kisses is about Dylan’s journey to rediscovering himself and what a way to do it! The sex scenes (both M/M and M/F) were hot and left me wanting more. They were so well written and you could feel Dylan’s struggle to let go and enjoy the moment after having spent so many years trying to be perfect and denying his own needs. I can't wait to see where Kim Bailey next takes Dylan but I'm hoping she gives him someone to love who will love him in return and he gets all the opportunities he missed out on with his son, Hunter.
Would I recommend this novella? Yes, I would. I fully intend to keep up to date with this series as I love Kim’s work and need to know more about all the characters. This novella contains an exclusive excerpt from Fairytale Kisses, which is Caleb’s story, at the end and I will definitely be reading the book once it's available.
I volunteered to read an ARC of this novella and do a review.
Now i've got to say i am really 50/50 over Dylan's character. One minute i want to smack him upside his head the next i just want hold him, then his sexy side is well... oh hello!!
"Is it love? Lust? Infatuation? Whatever the label, it's passionate and consuming. My new infatuation. My two new infatuations."
My opinion on Dylan did change from reading Complex Kisses to Illict i really thought he was a douchebag in the first book but i have seen him in a different light and i really can't wait for his full book i'm really intrigued on what will happen and how my opinion is going to change.
Dylan is trying to get his life back on track spending some much needed time with his son. He was hoping that he would have been back together with his Ex Jamie but he now realises thats never going to happen and that really it never should!! together. While he's realising this he never expected to meet two separate people who both make him feel out of control in the best way possible.
There is Chantal, there is Sean, and there is Dylan. Sexual tension at its best with sexy banter, lust and some seriously hot sex scenes between M/M, M/F and M/F/M.

Pick it apart and you will find nothing wrong with this. Characters are top-notch. Dylan is such a broken soul. My heart hurt for him. Writing is so freaking beautiful. Language is the way of the world and sometimes, we forget how important it is in fiction. Well, this is the book to read to remind you of that. Also, the sexiness.... OMG! Yes, I am a romance reader and I love all the sexy goodness. This book has all the steaminess that I love. It has anticipation, foreplay and then, the climax (both literally and figuratively).
This is a novella, yes, but please don't let that fool you. I am always reluctant to pick up a novella because I always judge too quickly. I think a novella can never have enough plot or meat to keep me engaged. BUT please don't let this stop you. This novella might as well be a full-fledged novel, with the heart and the layers it has.
I urge you to pick this up. You are NOT going to be sorry. This wonderful story had me enthralled right from page one.
In Illicit Kisses, we get to know Dylan, and he's really not obnoxious. He's an upstanding guy struggling with the reality that he's not going to have the family he envisioned. Dylan's trying to find his place in Hunter's life, proving he's a good father in spite of other people's perception of him. He's also finding out who he is, what he wants, and how to get over the love of his life. His journey of self-discovery leads him to two very different people. Attracted to both, he moves forward. And those scenes are incredibly well written and freakin' off the charts HOT!
Kim Bailey's writing sparkles, her depth for such a short novella left me wanting more. I'm looking forward to more of Dylan's story down the line and I'm hoping he finds his happy ever after. I do recommend that you read Complex Kisses before Illicit Kisses so you can understand Dylan a bit better. I truly enjoyed this read and I think you will too.
We know the hero Dylan McCoy from the previous part, Complex Kisses and gently saying he wasn't my favorite character. He's Hunter's father, still in love with his ex girlfriend, Jamie. Now he's trying to fix mistakes and clean up his behavior. He does it for his son, but also a woman he can not forget and who already marries another.
When he meets appealing French, Chantal and hockey player, Sean, he would never expected where a new acquaintance would lead him and how much it would help to move on.
This story begins with the promise of more, because this novel will be developed into a full-length book. Those who like some menage with MM and MFM scenes is a definite item to read. There is not much eroticism and extensive descriptions, but those that are, are no less sensual and hot. Much emphasis is also placed on character development and the hero presentation in a better light.
I can not wait for the full story and how it will develop. As you might guess, such triangles can give you a lot of turmoil and excitement, not just in bed.
This is for you if you like: short stories, menage, MM scenes, unconventional relationships.
