I have been a huge fan of Miranda's books, ever since the first; Fairytale of New York. I feel since then I have been on an incredible journey with Miranda through her story telling, and get excited with each book. I have a love for New York, so you can imagine how thrilled I was to read "I'll Take New York."
To think that Miranda has not lived in the city, she captures the place so well, and would think that she was a native.

I loved the story, I loved how fans of the first book, were able to catch up with the characters, but even if you've not read it, it doesn't matter.
Bea and Jake have a shared passion of the amazing city that never sleeps, and it was really fascinating to read how they experience familiar landmarks and their interpretations of them.
Whilst these types of storylines can be quite predictable, I still wasn't sure which way it was going to go, right up until the very last two chapters. If you are a fan of romance and reality then this is a great read. I like how the characters are 'normal' and you can really relate to them.

Another great book Miranda, and Iook forward to your future offerings.

I've found a new favourite author in Miranda Dickinson. This book was light-hearted, full of romance and happiness. Throw in a little bitterness and sorrow and you've got a perfect winter book. Curl up with a blanket, hot drink and just let it flow!! Beautiful writing, happily read again!

I found the two main characters not only unsympathetic but incredibly thick. The woman (cannot even remember her name) lets her awful boyfriend wind her up so far....I stopped caring about her after a page or two. And the bloke still wants to be in a relationship with his nasty wife....None of this was believable on any level so I gave up after a chapter. Please don't waste your time. Dreadful book.

I know this might seem a stupid thing to do,but towards the end of the book I started to feel really upset when I thought that bea and jake didn't realise their feelings for each other. I found this book really thought provoking.

Format: Paperback
British Bea James owns a bookstore in New York with her best friend Russ. She has been together with her unreliable boyfriend Otis for ages and more than once has she almost given up on their relationship. Until it seems that he is finally ready to show his commitment to Bea and pop the inevitable question. However, when once again she is let down – and even worse, she's humiliated in front of her family – Bea has finally had enough and she breaks up with Otis.

Psychiatrist Jake Steinmann is going through similar relationship problems: his wife has asked for a divorce, and most of their shared belongings in the process. Devastated at the unexpected turn of events, as he still loves his wife dearly, Jake packs up his bags and moves back from San Francisco to New York, where his family is – trying to make a new start for himself away from all the memories of the life he shared with his wife.

When Bea and Jake meet at a party their conversation soon turns to their heartbreak and determined to not be hurt again they create a pact: they will never get involved with anyone ever again. Instead they'll relish their single status and do everything you can't do when you're stuck in a relationship; going to the cinema by yourself and eating all the popcorn, watching five episodes of a box-set in one go and, most of all, explore New York City like seeing it for the first time. But of course giving up on love is easier said than done.

I'll Take New York was a sweet read for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Bea was a lovely main character and I adored her bookshop, especially when she started to organise events there – I definitely want to have my birthday party in her shop too!
